Govt to take steps to make life of soldiers more comfortable
New Delhi, Aug 9 (PTI) Government will take all steps to make the life of Indian soldiers deployed at high altitudes more comfortable, Minister of state for Defence M M Pallam Raju today said.
"Government intends to make the life of Indian soldier more comfortable at high altitude and we in the Defence Ministry are giving special focus to the needs of the soldiers deployed in high altitude conditions," he said at a DRDO function on global hypoxia.
"We have taken adequate steps to provide good quality food, both fresh and processed for meeting the nutritional requirements of the soldiers and provide better cold weather protection clothing and construction of suitable shelters on the mission mode to meet their basic requirements, he said.
DRDO has developed several equipment for high altitude operations such as HAPO bag that has saved thousands of lives of soldiers, who had succumbed to high altitude pulmonary edema.
Biodigesters developed by DRDO have helped to keep Himalayan environment clean through proper human waste management.
