DHAKA : The present government is set to build two cultural centers in Kolkata and in New York by 2013 in a bid to promote our cultural heritage to people of those countries.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith came up with the disclosure while delivering his budget speech for the fiscal 2012-13 in the Jatiya Sangsad Thursday.
Mentioning that the government has proposed an allocation of Taka 195.57 crore for the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Muhith said, I believe we can uphold the positive image of our country before the outside world through extensive promotion and publicity of our cultural heritage.steps have been taken to establish cultural centres in different countries to this end.
Besides, the government has taken steps to explore and preserve the archaeological sites across the country to uphold cultural heritage of the country, he informed.
Preservation and development programme of archaeological sites is going on throughout the country including Mahasthangarh, Paharpur, Kantajeu, ahabaleshwar and Bagerhat, he added.
He informed that the excavations and exploration work in Wari-Bateshwar and Bikrampur are also on progress.
