Govt requested to increase electricity tariff by Rs6.10

NEPRA will hold a hearing on the matter on February 28 at the CPPA’s request

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) on Saturday requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for an increase of Rs6.10 in the electricity tariff on account of the monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for January.

“In January, the reference fuel cost was about Rs 6.51 per unit,” the CPPA said, adding that the request is for all consumer categories of distribution companies, except for lifeline and K-Electric consumers.

NEPRA will hold a hearing on the matter on February 28 at the CPPA’s request.

If the tariff hike is approved, it is expected to have an impact of around Rs60 billion, including GST on the consumers.

It is pertinent to mention here that under Section 31(7) of the NEPRA Act (XL of 1997) and the mechanism for monthly fuel price adjustment prescribed by the authority in the tariff determinations of ex-WAPDA Distribution Companies, the authority may on monthly basis make adjustments in the approved tariff on account of any variations in the fuel charges and policy guidelines as the federal government may issue and notify the tariff so adjusted in the official gazette.

The situation will remain the same as two long term supplier, ENI & Gunvor, refused to fulfill commitments to deliver two shipments of LNG in March.

? Why are you quoting Imran Khan here? Imran Khan did expensive IPP contracts?

.
They all tell lies to come to power. That’s politics for you in Pakistan. Ofcourse people are aware of this. Which is why Imran khans popularity has taken a nose dive in Pakistan.
Petrol for example was
2014= $92 a barrel. 82 rs a ltr.in pak
2022= $92 a barrel. 160rs a ltr. In pak
Same is the case with everything else.

The same old excuse of blaming the previous govts doesn’t sit well with the public anymore and people don’t care about what Nawaz or ppp did. Infact they get agitated when you tell them this. They gave pti its chance. Imran Khan has only a year and a half to do something to turn around things. But it seems nothing’s happening in the remaining time either.

According to a patwari mind yes! Everything that happened for the past 3 decades is Imran Khan's fault and Mian Samp will change the destiny of Pakistan if given another term for the 4th time.

The price of dollar has no say? The previous government had kept the dollar low, artificially, as accepted by Ishaq Dar. It was about 100 in Nawaz era, now it is 175. Nawaz enjoyed around 20-30 rupees per litre as tax levy. Current government charges about 0-1 rupee on a litre as tax. Imran is not to be blamed blindly. Not advocating for his poor performance against what we were promised, but still, he is trying.

Agreed sir. The only thing is that a lay man doesn’t care nor does he understand as to how and why the dollar, electricity, gas, commodities or any other thing is twice the price today. They general public only cares about performance and what the govt in power did. That’s what the vote on. Nawazu left dollar on 112. 0-1 rs on tax? 😄. Good joke sir. Or maybe your actually misinformed.

Sir g I am a lay man myself. Before the increase in petrol prices, Government was in a loss selling petrol at 149 per litre. A loss of around 80 billion rupees per month. That is not a small amount. But selling it at a loss at all is plausible.
But, I agree. The common man does not give a duck about any details of this sort.

And do a bit of research. Yes it was 0-1Rs of tax per litre being sold recently before the price hike.

Sir you might be right about all the figures and I agree with you but the point is that these figures are only comprehended by educated people like you and me. Majority of our population are either illiterate or don’t care about these numbers due to their financial situation. All the care about is how things translate on ground and that’s what they vote on ultimately.

They gave pti its chance.
They gave PPP and PMLN 3 chances each and still want more of them lol

It was much cheaper in 1947. What's your point?

That's because you subsidised petrol with borrowed dollars. The actual value of the petrol was 130 pkr minimum at that time too by real value of pkr ( approx). This is the reason why you in a twin debt trap and IMF.

Do you know why India and other peers go so ahead of you is because they didn't manipulate their currencies to supply subsidised petrol.

Had your policies been different last time and productivity not fallen victim to manipulated currency people in general would have been more able to afford petrol now.

Asfar as fuel charge on electricity generation goes its very simple to understand who is responsible for setting up imported fuel based IPP's in Pakistan. Entire generation will suffer whenever international prices increase, irrespective of IK. It only takes some common sense to understand this.

This is the reason why we should have avoided imported fuels IPP's rather focused on indigenous resources.

People are just paying for that, had IK done the same I would have blamed him too but he is the only person who cancelled whichever such plants he can and went full throttle with local resources.

You people were masturb*ting by watching commercials of these imported fuel IPP's now pay the price. I remember how you guys defended imported coal vs local 😂

BTW anyone mentions FO/Diesel should know spot LNG is more expensive than FO or diesel. Majority of LNG generation cost mentioned above is long term Qatar LNG. Even longterm is extremely expensive given the Brent prices.

Should have negotiated better contracts, is Pakistan the only country where these companies are defaulting?
There must a reason if that is true.

Anyways Pakistan has asked for 2 replacement spot cargoes. We have removed the procedural bottlenecks in procurement of spot, this will allow real time buying.

The cost is around $25 mmbtu, which has greatly come down due to increased wind generation in Europe. Fingers crossed but it is not cheap.
