The government on Thursday has informed the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production that it would not bring any changes in the Auto Policy 2016-21 announced by the previous PML-N government.

The committee, in a meeting chaired by Senator Ahmed Khan, was informed by the Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce, Textile, Industry, Production and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood that the PTI government would continue to enforce the Automobile Development Policy 2016-21, which was announced and implemented in March 2016.

While replying to a question from Senator Sitara Ayaz who asked whether the government would be giving Greenfield status to Pak Suzuki’s proposed $460-million investment, the adviser said that among local companies, only Pak Suzuki had asked for changing the investment category under the auto policy.

The company wants to build a new plant with an investment of $460 million along with its existing plant.

Mr Abdul Razak Dawood pointed out that any change in the category would be decided after meeting with and taking into confidence all the stakeholders. He added:

“If they [stakeholders] do not agree, we will not be giving Pak Suzuki Motor Greenfield status for its new plant because this category is only for new investors and new technology.”

Abdul Razak Dawood
I don't like this guy. I feel he is part of the industrialist mafia that runs a rentier/gouging economy. But PTI needed to placate the powerful Karach business elite and he was the man for it.

Imran khan brought al thugs a same story as sharif and zardari keep doing only difference will be this govt will do a big corruption but silently

I am interested in this!

Razak Dawood will prove to be achilles heel for the setup. Every day, he is doing one thing or another.

They Said The Same Thing About The 22 Families Then Our Economy Went To Shit

They Said The Same Thing About The 22 Families Then Our Economy Went To Shit
The economy went to shit because of the convergence of two factors -

  • The tapering off and eventual cessation of the tsunami of US aid* during 1960s.
  • Bhutto's dumb idea of nationalization
And that phase came to end in 1979. Decades have passed with out our mafia industrialists doing anything other than hiding behind protectionism and then gouging/scalping the captive domestic consumer market much of which is fueled by ex-pat remittances. A good example is the auto industry in Pakistan like Suzuki ~ typical nexus between local racketers and foreign multi-nationals.

*The so called 1960s miracle was just a economic bubble riding massive US inward investment and aid. Rather similiar to Musharaf's era.

nationalization was what he means by persecution 22 families

Bhutto destroyed Pakistan

And no it wasnt a bubble neither was musi era development Pakistan receives more aid in zardari era if you look at numbers

So what happened why mushi growth collapsed..simole look at numbers..

Three things happened

first investment dried up from 3b$ a year to few million as soon as PPPP came into power due to law and order and 10% comission

Second global economic crisis

Third during the final yr there was historical boom in oil prices which led to huge CAD(by the way it was less 2 b$) GOVT DIDNT TAKE corrective meausres in 2007-08 by decreasing spending (fiscal deficit) and 10% devaluation as surrounding nations did but instead over spent to BUY the election

GFS should only be granted to "new" entrants.

When will you guys wake up to the fact that we don't have industrialists. We never did. Our ruling elite prostitued Pakistan's strategic location and prostituted our cheap labour to make $$$ and then acted smug or the elite mafia did. If you want I can produce figures to confirm my claim.

And to prevent any of the massing asking question they let loose the mullahs who of course herded the masses in another direction.

Put a ban on them or give them warning for the tin cans they are producing

I will but for now have a look at my contention about the 'prostitution' of our geostrategic location in return for US dollar aid, much of it pocketed by our elite. The largest dose by massive amount was during Ayub era. In 1962 Pakistan trecieved the highest aid in it's entire history at nearly $2.4 billion dollars. That is a massive figure for two reasons -

  • In 1962 pakistan's population was about 45 million [excluding east which never got any of the money].
  • In 1962 the dollar was probably three times worth more because of inflation.
If you factor these both in your talking about [adjusted] aid of about $15 billion per year in todays money. Think about that. This was what gave the 'shine' to the so called boom of 1960s. Look at this chart below of absoulte aid over the decades. However when you look at it adjust those figures for population [increase] and dollar value [decrease].

@Nilgiri Your thoughts appreciated.

Can Pakistan afford all the energy imports needed if its car market expands rapidly even more than the existing situation? Be careful what you wish for!

so you are saying GDP doubled from 60b to 120b, exports doubled and debt halfed in mushi era due to 9b dollars of aid(Pakistan received more FDI than this aid amount)..even thatn Pakistan almost spent doubled of it in military operations ..if that is your argument than there is no point talking to you anymore..
