Govt filing cases ‘to keep BNP leaders from polls’

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday alleged that the government is filing cases one after another against the senior leaders of the party to keep them away from the next parliament elections.

“Awami League destroyed democracy,” he said while addressing a discussion at Vasani auditorium at the city’s Nayapaltan. “Now they want to keep [BNP Senior Vice Chairman] Tarique Rahman and other senior leaders outside the election process.”

Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal, the woman wing of the main opposition party, organised the meeting on the occasion of its 33rd founding anniversary. Noor-e-Ara Safa, president of the organisation, presided over the meeting conducted by its general secretary Shirin Sultana.

He said the government has absolutely failed to run the country and destroyed all the institutions that backtracked country’s economy. “They also attacked Dr Muhammad Yunus by removing him from Grameen Bank which he founded to enhance our rural economy.”

Stating that Bangladesh is passing a critical juncture and its economy is weakening every day, the BNP leader added that the country could not achieve anything from the Indian prime minister’s visit due to lack of a bold foreign policy.

Announcing that there is no alternative to organising movement to protect democracy and independence of the country, Alamgir urged everyone to come forward to protect their voting right which was snatched by the fifteenth amendment.

Is this democracy?

I am surprised that the political parties of Bangladesh can fool the people all the time!

Bangladeshi are real innocent people, I must say.
