Govt considering to establish media university: Fawad Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhary has said the government is considering a proposal to establish a media university in Islamabad through merger of the academies of Radio Pakistan and PTV.
The federal minister, during a visit of the state-owned Radio Pakistan on Wednesday, said that the media university will produce graduates in the fields of news, reporting, drama and other cultural fields. He said the resources of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) and PTV academies will be utilised by establishing the university.
Director-General PBC Shafqat Jalil briefed the minister about the working of the organisation and its future plans of action. The minister was also briefed about the budgetary issues and working of news and current affairs channel and program and engineering wings.
He was also briefed about the plan to modernise aging transmitters and replacing them with new digital transmitters to expand coverage area. The minister recommended that Radio Pakistan should start an English channel and the PBC should start a YouTube TV channel.
He further emphasised that the internet including social media sites such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter should also be utilised for the content of the English channel.
The minister said a proposal is also under consideration for constitution of joint Board of Directors of PBC and PTV. He appreciated that Radio Pakistan was playing its role responsibly.
DG PBC also apprised the minister about the problems faced by the organisation. He said Radio Pakistan is fully focused on providing information, education and entertainment to the masses across the country.
The minister also visited the National Broadcasting House of Radio Pakistan and the different sections including national newsroom, social media desk, studios, and FM-94 music channel.
