ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting of the government's committee formed to hold talks with negotiators representing the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), during which the committee expressed its inability to carry forward peace talks, DawnNews reported.

The committee said the talks could not progress without any solid steps and also asked the Taliban to unconditionally cease all violent activities without any delay.

The meeting was also attended by Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Federal Information Minister Pervez Rasheed.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister House, the government committee briefed Nawaz Sharif and told him that during the 13-day process of talks several acts of violence took place killing a number of people.

The committee further said that the talks were progressing satisfactorily until the Taliban-claimed blast was carried out in Karachi on Feb 13. The blast had targeted a police bus near Razzaqabad.

The committee had also sought an explanation from the outlawed militant organisation but before one could be given the Mohmand incident took place.

Following these developments, the committee members had unanimously decided that holding the scheduled talks with the Taliban committee was a meaningless effort.

The committee members also said that they had been patient but the reaction from other side was discouraging with the continuance of violent activities.

The situation has completely changed after the Mohmand incident and the committee is unable to continue peace talks until the Taliban cease all violent activities, the members added.

Premier Sharif appreciated the performance of the committee and instructed the members to continue consultations among themselves.

What does he mean continue consultations among themselves? Isn't this his job as a premier to come to a decision once the committee briefed him and updated him on the situation? Does it not show his inability to come to a conclusion?
Now while IK bashing was all time high why is nobody criticizing Premier Sharif for his inability to make a decision on military action. What kind of hypocrisy being displayed here?

Ganja is a loser. We all know that. We all know what he did in Kargil and in Aimal Kasi case. I didn't vote for him. I voted PTI and I have every right to criticize them for their love towards murderers of Pakistani nation.

talking for peace is not supporting the view..and PTI did say before elections to give peace a chance, your views have changed, not that of PTI, what you perceive from tv is mqm/anp/pmln propaganda.

Yes. PTI did say. But PTI didn't say that they would be so stubborn to understand the ground realities. They said they would make a naya Pakistan but didn't say that they would remain ignorant and continue ranting about peace talks even if they are not possible. The problem here is that even today Imran Khan is more worried about the so called peace talks than the victims of terrorism.

ground realities is just a cover you are taking because you have changed your position, and couldnt bear the pressure. things were worst than today. the fact is "peace talks" should get a support from all sections including the army with all honest and good intention, if we want to bring supremacy of the civilian rule in our country, the peace talks should get the priority, else like I say we have the option of military operation at any given day !!
