KARACHI, Oct 24 (APP): The long awaited Muslim World Almanac was launched by Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat- ul- Ebad Khan at a ceremony here on Friday.
The ceremony was largely attended, among others, by Consuls of foreign countries, particularly Muslim states, university professors, bankers, business executives and academics from Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
In his inaugural speech, the Governor said the Almanac covers a variety of subjects with skill and dexterity and one is bound to admit that it is a timely addition to a source reservoir.
He was confident that it will be welcomed by all social and commercial circles and play the role of an important information bridge between different institutions and segments of society.
Earlier, Vice President Research and Documentation Society, Syed Hasan Mutahar in his welcome speech, observed that The Almanac is not a register of Scientific Investigation, but fruit of some worthwhile intellectual exercise and a dependable telescope of viewing the state of affairs and reality together with the ambience and ethos prevailing in the Muslim World.
Publisher and Managing Editor of the Almanac, Dr. Jawaid Anwar- ul- Hasan, said the main objective of the Almanac is to present a true picture of the Muslim World and to remove ignorance that drives fanaticism and bigotry leading to violation of norms of human dignity and religious tolerance.
He declared that it is to bridge the gap between Muslims and others by providing authentic information about Muslim life and culture.
A beautifully designed exhaustive survey of the Muslim world covering some 900 pages, published from Makkah- tul- Mukarrmah and Hong Kong, the Almanac is a memorable treatise which opens a new gateway to the task of identification and elucidation of important Muslim issues and problems.
Many reputed Muslim scholars in different parts of the world have acclaimed it with extraordinary enthusiasm.
