After introducing a tax amnesty scheme, the PTI government is considering to initiate a similar program to owners of NCP (Non Custom Paid) smuggled vehicles in some parts of the country, according to The Express Tribune.

This was discussed in a Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday. Revenue Minister of K-P, Shakil Ahmed briefed the Prime Minister on tax collection in the province, and pointed out that hundreds of thousands of non-customs paid smuggled vehicles were in use in Malakand Division and the former tribal districts. The minister recommended the government to provide a one-time amnesty scheme to their owners.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, upon hearing the suggestion, informed participants that the government has decided to extend an amnesty scheme for non-customs paid vehicles in all merged tribal districts, Malakand Division and Balochistan.

According to another high official, who participated in the meeting, public agitation has made it difficult for authorities to carry out action against non-customs paid vehicles, even though the residents of merged tribal districts and Malakand were given a 5-year exemption in taxes.

The official said the government has prepared a gradual tax collection program for these areas to improve revenue generation, but non-customs paid vehicles remain a big stumbling block. More than 500,000 such vehicle are on the roads of Malakand alone, a senior K-P finance department official said, citing official statistics.

This will not be the first time an amnesty scheme is introduced for smuggled vehicles. The PPP government ran a month-long scheme back in March 2013 which resulted in the registration of 34,000 non-customs paid vehicles all over the country. The government was able to generate Rs 10 billion in resulting customs duty payments.

How will the environmental damage be calculated?

I think we are definitely going through a systematic NRO which people cannot figure out due to mass hysteria being spread by the media purposefully.

Yea keep protecting them never juice them for tax...just keep giving them amnesty and  to do more crappy underground work instead of fixing the channels and asking them to use those!

Can I smuggle a few from Sweden.. but in Pakistan, it is wrong hand drive..

Islamic ''NRO'' Replublic of Pakistan. Everyone gets NRO expect if you're piss poor.

Should do a block / road check and demolish the illegal cars and fine owner 5,000 dollar

pound them and use in dam construction

you human calculators have no planning just want a Rich government and poor public like india.

not amused

Smuggled cars are 99% Stolen cars from other world wide location, and then these cars are never formally registered , and fake number plats are used on these cars

Well stolen cars smuggled in can be used for Terrorism and Crime.

Also chances are stolen cars are un-registered with Government so Government is lossing revenue on the registration fees and various Tax fees associated with Import cars

$5,000 USD fine on owner is proper , as these are stolen cars
Shipped illegally into Pakistan , and also Pakistan Based dealers can't sell cars because of these stolen cars imported into Pakistan

Laws should be introduced , to check car registration number and if not present , crush the vehicle in scrap yard and sell it to local scrap yard and money recovered should be deposited in Government account

The scrapped cars are sold to local scrap yard to recycle metal parts

Money Earned from Scrap: $500 Dollar for Government of Pakistan
Money Earned from Owner Fine : $5,000 USD for Government of Pakistan
  • No criminal charges if Fine is paid
  • 12 Month Imprisonment if Fine is not paid

Government of Pakistan will earn same amount of money or even more just by scrapping and then selling the metal in open scrap market

It's better to do the right thing and SCRAP !!! the stolen cars or smuggled cars to send a strong message
