Government says no to compulsory military stint

Their is really no need of compulsory military training for Graduates.

Their is no shortage of youth who are willing to join ARMY, (Including me, have given CDS exam last year) even i may say there is mara mari to join the army, competition is really tough for Officer rank i.e Lieutenant

Two of my friends have already made it into, One is currently stationed in rajasthan and other one is going through compulsory commando training. I will try my luck this year too, hope i will get the Privilege to serve my Country. :)

Vitalizing the gym and sports in schools is a very good idea. Healthy minds can only reside in healthy bodies. In India, sports and physical activities in schools is often seen as a distraction from studies. That attitude should change, because being fit and healthy is equally important. Some form of martial arts for those who opt for it.

But military conscription? Hell, no. The Indian military is the largest volunteer force on earth, and proudly so. Our armed forces have some 1.5 million personnel and a million or so reservists, and they all volunteered to be there, every single one of them. They serve out of calling, not out of compulsion. They have answered the nation's call, NOT the nation's orders.

It is true. In a age when a boy, develops into a sportsperson, ie after age 14, he/she is pressuried into studies, and as a result we get less sporting talent, than originally present.
Still free martial training to govt school kids is the best option. :)

There should be compulsory military training for all young girls so that they can kick *** of animals living in our society.

I think limited martial training can be given at school levels to keep the students healthy. Private schools keep various kinda classes to pool out money from parents. Govt school can have it. It will be good ,especially for girls, instead of outright conscription

we got it in our school that to free in 8th and 9th.... rope /wallclimbing,, karate, kick boxing.... yes only for those who are intrested...

Good luck to you mate!

As has been said- there is no issue with a lack of demand to join the military in India. The officer shortage could be sorted in 1 year easily if the IA lowered its criteria but it is because the Indian military only select the very best and brightest that the officer shortage is going to take close to a decade to properly address and fair enough. The US military has had some real issues on this front where they have lowered the entrant criteria to join the military over the last decade due to its ongoing wars and this has lead to criminals, people with gang affiliations and those who just should not be in uniform all being signed up with predictably disastrous results.

The definition what you noted gets very tricky. This is the media raking up an issue coz certain ppl in power have problems seeing people who made mistakes reform themselves. It's not black and white as the media portrays.
