What's new

Got bored to death waiting for Wng Cmdr Yasir, so decided to throw a couple of 3G turns myself

Yesterday I controlled an aeroplane for the first time in my life. Before that, I have controlled a helicopter. Pics attached, video is too large trying to find a way to upload on defence.pk. I don't want to create a youtube account.

The 3G turns took place towards the end. The pilot first tested my strength by making me raise my hands above my head while the 3G run was being executed. He said many body builder types can't achieve that! After that he basically talked me through it. For every 30 degrees of turn you need to add 1G of force otherwise you lose altitude. The mechanics are simple:

1. Turn the aircraft to the 60 degree angle.
2. Pull back and move the stick slightly in the other direction.
3. Keep pulling back. If you are solo you would also be adjusting the power, but the pilot had complete control of the power so I didn't have to worry about that.

The blood and adrenaline rush into you is just amazing!!!!

. . .
are you pilot?

Nopes. Went for a bit of adventure. There are experiences available for this kind of enjoyment. The actual pilot does the take-off/landing but hands over the control to you while in the air. You can play to your heart's content. I plan to keep doing this and learn more and more. Being an aviation buff this is too good to miss!!

in Australia? wow

Good one. Though in simple words we can say that tighter turn need bigger inclination of the plane and bigger inclination reduces the lift-thrust ratio (lift reduces for a given thrust) so greater thrust is needed to maintain altitude. Hence the statement that tighter the turn the greater the thrust required.
