Glimpse of Flyovers and Elevated expressways in Dhaka

What we need is MRT, this flyovers are rather a temporary solve.
People needs to walk more and use less vehicles. As our
very own eastwatch used to say why not revamp the footpaths
with plazas and greenery? It takes 20 mins to cross dhanmondi by walking
whereas if you are caught in jam, you're done for.

Not in New York but in other newer cities. Go to Dallas or St. Louis you will see. I never been LA. New York problem was solved through metros.

Circular road works for different purpose when you try to bypass a city. But in Dhaka's case there is hardly any vehicle which pass through city rather they are destined to the city. For instance no Bus from Rajshahi pass through dhaka to go to Chittagong. The final destination is Dhaka.

Well functioning mega city need about 20% roads beside mass metro system like subway. Dhaka city got about 6% roads. So you can build ten of thousand flyovers but it will not significantly reduce traffic jams unless new roads added. I do not understand why these Idiots in Dhaka aren't adding and widening existing roads.

Circular roads around Dhaka city will help to move goods around city also it can be connected with other part of the country through bridge or even in underground tunnel like we have between New York and New Jersey.

The only way you can increase the road area through going vertical means overhead. You cant widen the existing road anymore as there is no space. They are putting all their head together to solve the nagging problem it seems.

I was not neagating the need for circular road but was mentioning that it was not the most priority.

The proposed flyovers shown are very futuristic and possible ideal for the purpose it is to be constructed i.e. inner city congestion.

A flyover is not constructed for cosmetic reasons.

It is for traffic management and obviating the clog up one see on the streets. Flyovers speed up traffic and ensures that there is no delay of having to stop at traffic lights as would happen for roads since there will be intersections even at ring roads. Therefore, a flyover has no wait time that would happen at traffic lights at intersections and hence would reduces pollution.

It is easy to talk about ring roads. They do not prevent inner city clog up. Flyovers do the job.

The few things negative about flyovers is that they are costly, cannot be used by pedestrians and the pillars and the underbelly looks ugly.

Dhaka has enough roads for its current motor vehicle population. However vehicles such as rickshaws, clog up the streets and cause traffic jams. Futhermore the lack of traffic lights is another problem in the streets of dhaka that contribute to the traffic jams
