Gilat Satellite Networks announced the joint development project with Airbus (Airbus) to develop the ESA antenna IFC funded CS2JU, Horizon 2020 as part of the European Union.
Airborne antenna technology will be presented during a plane flight of the Airbus demo technologies, based on the C295 aircraft, in order to support the purpose of the Clean Sky 2 (CS2) and green transportation more efficient.
Gilat was selected to develop an integrated satellite terminal Ka frequency field based on its capabilities in the field of Phased Array Antenna (PAA). The antenna will be embedded into the structure of the wing of the plane and will include the amplification and radiating elements. The development will include designing, building a prototype, production, and testing on the ground and during the flight of the airborne terminal in cooperation with Airbus.
Airbus partner in CS2JU and supports the development of technology for the supply of air transport sustainable and greener. Gilat embedded antenna will open the concert with Airbus and will demonstrate a complete airborne satellite connectivity does not affect the performance of the aircraft. The ESA airborne terminal of Gilat installed Airbus demonstrates technologies for in-flight validation tests to be performed in Seville, Spain, using Ka satellite covering Europe.
PAA antenna technology enables high integration and full implementation of the antenna within the chassis of the plane, and more specifically, as part of the nose section, the section which connects the wing and fuselage. The original plane boards will be replaced with a new complex patterns PAA embedded antenna, and thus prevent any protrusion from the body of the plane. This solution adds capabilities delivering high-speed Internet airplanes without affecting the performance of the aircraft and maneuvers while avoiding the aerodynamic drag and reduce fuel consumption. Embedded antenna will contribute to reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and thus to support one of the major social challenges for providing intelligent transportation, green and integrated.
"Gilat proud that the technology ESA / PAA her chosen solution leading to de facto antenna adjustable electronically, for the implementation of aeronautical. The choice of the European Union allows us to join forces with Airbus, a leading provider of aircraft, and to cooperate in the development of future generations of high-speed Internet airplanes. The technology will support speeds data traffic performance and customized types of different aircraft, "said Michael (Mickey) Barak, vice president of marketing and sales in the aviation and mobility Gilat." thanks to the capacity adjustment of beam electronically at high speed, the solution is suitable for providing free parking for planes using satellites kind GEO, MEO and LEO future.
