Gift from Turkey: Macedonian Soldiers Get New Masked Uniforms and Boots

A USD 2-million donation from Turkey was presented today at the Ministry of Defense, which was given for the needs of the Macedonian Army (ARM).
The donation, which is of high quality and compatible with the NATO standards, consists of new military uniform and 5,000 pairs of both winter and summer boots.
Defense Minister Zoran Jolevski said that the equipment will be distributed in the ARM units and will significantly contribute to supply services equipping and the modernization of the army.
Jolevski also said that the donation is another confirmation of the traditional friendship and excellent cooperation with Turkey as a respected NATO member, which offers its support to Macedonia becoming a full-fledged member of the Alliance.
"Since 1996, more than 700 members of the Macedonian Army and the Defense Ministry have the privilege to get education and training at prestigious military training centers in Turkey," Jolevski noted, adding that the established friendly ties between the two nations is an example for the entire region and wider.
Turkey's Ambassador to Macedonia, Omur Solendil, said that relations in the sphere of defense are one of the most advanced in the frames of bilateral relations between the two countries. Until the present day, 28 agreements on military-financial aid have been signed and the cooperation is focused on training and providing logistical support to ARM. Assistance in training is being conducted in the frames of the signed agreement on military training and cooperation in 1994.
"The Republic of Turkey believes that the fact that Macedonia is located in the heart of the Balkans is a key country for the peace and prosperity of the entire region, and strongly supports its territorial integrity and political unity and strengthens the support to the country's membership in the Euro-Atlantic structures," Solendil said.
