Get Raped in saudia and you are at Fault ''These people calls others infidels''

Hey RR, so if a dictator or a tyrant in some country decides to make it legal for ppl of one community to kill ppl of some other community what do you think the rest of the world shud do? Accept the genocide because because it is legal in that country?

I don't know if Hitler and Stalin had enacted laws asking ppl to persecute jews or anyone else those two wanted to(they did it anyway) but if they had should the entire world have just sit tight and watch saying that it was the german or russian way of doing things and we shud respect it?

I know you will reply saying that a single woman getting punished is a far cry from mass murder but the principle is the same. Its their law so we should just respect it(or even defend it as we are seeing here).

.
Why shouldn't you respect the local culture, even if it's stupid? I find a ban on beef eating, but not on pig eating to be hygienically stupid. But it occurs. Should not respect this custom/culture because it is stupid to me?

Actually, the right word isn't stupid, its dangerous and unfair. It has the potential of causing great harm to people. Its not a benign law.

Tolerating religious beliefs is relatively still acceptable when it doesn't harm anyone. You will have to tolerate it, but you don't have to respect it.

Anways, there is nothing unhygienic about pork....and more people die from eating beef by getting mad cow disease...but thats besides the point.

Why not? Isn't it Saudi mentality that gives rise to their interpretation of the laws?

It is. And there is no need to respect Saudi mentality. They should be torn down intellectually whenever possible.

What is the wrong way of doing things? Gender segregation?

Yes, gender segregation is a very dangerous idea. But I'm not discussing that here.

Yes, now that I agree with you. These schools in Pakistan should be closed. It brings a different culture, a different mentality that probably doesnt exist easily with other forms.

This culture is also highly dangerous in many ways. By respecting their ideas, you are giving them a moral license to spread their ideas outside.

We should know better...since we have the legacy of a very tolerant form of Islam in the subcontinent.

No. Genocide is wrong by any cultural standard.

Not sure Stalin persecuted Jews. Hitler did together with gypsies, and basically everyone else.

I'd reply that you shouldnt enforce your version of morality onto Saudi Arabia. It's illegal for example to walk down the street without proper dress in most countries. Of course in some African tribal communities you can go to work without any clothes. Normal to them. Then you have Saudi Arabia, where it's illegal for the opposite sex to mix. Why should I tell them differently?

What harm does it do to segregate the sexes?

Tolerating religious beliefs is relatively still acceptable when it doesn't harm anyone. You will have to tolerate it, but you don't have to respect it.

Who is it hurting to keep the sexes apart? One could argue that keeping clothes hurts people. One culture versus another. Why are you correct?

Anways, there is nothing unhygienic about pork....and more people die from eating beef by getting mad cow disease...but thats besides the point.

Pork is pretty unhygienic. Pretty much proven. Beef just went through a temporary phase.

It is. And there is no need to respect Saudi mentality. They should be torn down intellectually whenever possible.

Dude, those are Saudi laws and customs. It's like me saying you should remove your beef ban eating laws.

Yes, gender segregation is a very dangerous idea. But I'm not discussing that here.

Lol! How is gender segregation dangerous? :enjoy:

Respecting an idea I think it alright so long as it is what people want. If Saudis want it, let them have it. That's the way it should be. I don't know if they want it or not though unless there's been a vote on it. They don't seem to make a fuss.

Morality...maybe not. But is humanity too much to ask?

200 lashes to the poor girl!(and the guy). They have just been raped for god's sake! Its not just about the laws, but the punishments they mete out.

You could argue where's the humanity in sentencing a man who got mugged for shooting his attacker. Both committed a crime, both got punished. But sure, there's a case for not imposing the punishment imo. Still doesn't change the fact they were breaking the law.

The world really wont mind a jihad by Muslims worldwide on these tyrants.
However, such a jihad - exists not.

Somehow the fight against such nonsense is always so lacking in fervour when compared to the other variety of jihad that the world continues to suffer from.

Does the same religious background stop Muslims from all over the world from declaring the regimes that implement these medieval barbaric laws as unIslamic ??

Who says they're unislamic? They're perhaps the equivalent of the Shiv Sena or the BJP or VHP. They're Hindu, just a little more extreme, just like those lot.

Speaking for Pakistan - the moderates are fighting their own struggle to remove draconian laws from the books. Musharraf had success in reforming the Hudood laws and releasing all women incarcerated under those laws, and that struggle for reform will continue.

Its easy for arm chair critics to complain about a lack of action by others, but a lot of people are simply struggling to get their own lives in order, putting food on the table and "surviving". Campaigning for justice. equality and opportunity within their own societies is what comes first, if they can get beyond mere survivalist thinking.
