Germany plans to build new leopard tank

What does it have to do with EU ?

Jealous ? :blah:

The EU and the push for integration in all areas, including this, military. Let's be honest here, between Germany and France, France is dead weight. How many exports of Leopard 2 tanks until now? How many of the Leclerc? Okay.

We are a dead weight just because Leopards have been produced for the German Army in high numbers (then sold in second-hand to many countries) than Leclerc, that could have been produced in far high number if the cold war didn't end. (We at least, exported +400 of them to UAE,and the Leclerc is expensive, also very expensive to maintain in service,i bet some armies thought about buying it but.... didn't have the funds to,just as the Rafale.)
Actually,we export more than Germany (in € billions) and this year we are exporting even more,so much from a "dead weight".

Relax. Germany sold brand new Leopard 2s to many more countries than France (only UAE, which is a semi-protectorate). So yes, German machinery is a million times better than French. See it in trains, cars, and military equipment. Germany stops it's own exports. Bunch of left wing nuthuggers. Saudi Arabia wanted to buy hundreds of brand new Leo 2a7s, and the lefties blocked the deal. Actually, the one and only reason the Germans want to do this is to circumvent those left wing bastards from sabotaging German arms exports. I hope the actual engineering is done more by the Germans than the French though.

French army technology had advantage on aviation, mostly because after World War 2, Germany was banned to develop army aviation technologies. Germany also hurt its future export opportunities, by being cocky and selective about exporting the army technology. Those countries believe France more than German foreign policy..

Correct. Let's hope the new tank won't be a compromised vehicle because of some French 'requirements'. The Germans have an outstanding reputation for building tanks, let's hope that continues with the next generation. It did work for Airbus, should work for the tanks.

Interesting, there was news a while back that Nexter (Leclerc maker) and KMW (Leopard maker) will merge.

The hull of that gray tank looks like mouse.

Do you have any link for that?

I hope your wishes will be heard. :chilli: :nana:

Really?

It's been about a year and in all news outlets.

As for the comments on French mili stuff being below par, besides the fact that at least France
successfully uses its military equipment while Germans themselves know their forces are inadequate,

The persons that made those comments should also note that the links are from Deutschland

Yapping an opinion is allowed but worth zilch when a mere unsubstantiated preference …
especially from nations that only dream they had the military production quality France enjoys.

I'll agree on the cars anytime though.

Thanks for Info.

Thanks for Info.

No problem buddy. I was honesty very surprised you had missed it though!
Maybe we should have threads per sector of military activity with only news and no comments.
I've seen it elsewhere and when kept free of discussions, it serves as a directory resource.

Have a good day, Tay.

The EU and the push for integration in all areas, including this, military. Let's be honest here, between Germany and France, France is dead weight. How many exports of Leopard 2 tanks until now? How many of the Leclerc? Okay.
How many NEW Leopard 2s (rather than used ones) versus NEW LeClercs? Okay.

Austrian Army acquired 114 Leopard 2A4s from surplus Dutch stocks
Canadian Army acquired 100 Leopard 2A4 tanks from the Netherlands in 2007. An additional fifteen Leopard 2A4 tanks were purchased from the German Army for spare parts. An additional 12 surplus Pz 87 were purchased from Switzerland in 2011 for conversion to protected special vehicles
Chilean Army acquired 132 Leopard 2A4s upgraded to the Leopard 2A4CHL standard (plus 8 to be used as spares) from German stocks in 2007.
Royal Danish Army operates 57 Leopard 2A5DK (equal to Leopard 2A6 minus the L55 gun) and 6 Leopard 2A4 (for spares) from German stocks.
Finnish Army originally bought 124 2A4s from surplus German stocks in 2003. In 2009, the Finnish Army bought 15 more German surplus Leopard 2A4s for spare parts. January 2014, Finland agreed with the Netherlands to purchase 100 used Leopard 2A6NL
Hellenic Army operates 353 Leopard 2s (183 ex-German 2A4s and 170 newly built Leopard 2A6 HEL vehicles)
Indonesia sought and obtained approval for the purchase of 103 used Leopard 2A4 tanks from Bundeswehr stocks
Norwegian Army operates 52 ex-Dutch Leopard 2A4s

By November 2013, the Polish Defense Ministry had acquired 119 tanks (105 Leopard 2A5s and 14 2A4s) from the German Army.
Portuguese Army has 37 ex-Dutch Leopard 2A6s
Singapore Army acquired 96 ex-German Leopard 2A4s, including 30 spare tanks. By 2013, it was reported that Singapore had taken delivery of 182 Leopard 2A4s
Spanish Army operates 327 Leopard 2s (108 ex-German Leopard 2A4s and 219 new-built Leopard 2A6+ (Leopard 2E).
Swedish Army operates 120 Leopard 2(S) (local designation Strv 122) and has operated 160 leased ex-German Leopard 2A4s (Strv 121). Only the Strv 122s are still in active service.
Swiss Army purchased 380 2A4s designated Pz 87, for Panzer 87. 35 of these were bought from Germany while the remaining ones were license manufactured locally.
Turkish Army received 354 Leopard 2A4s

It is fair to say the sale of USED ex-Dutch and ex-German Leopard 2s outnumbers the sale of NEW Leopard 2s for export. New Leo's were exported to Netherlands, Switserland, Spain, Greece and Sweden only....

I respect that you went through all that trouble to make that list, so I'll refrain from coming down hard. But these are just recent purchases. The Netherlands alone purchased over 440 leopard 2 tanks during the end of the cold war in the 80s. Just saying.
