according to the FAZ today (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung)
The German ministry of defence plans to transform the Bundeswehr Ground Forces. In the future the ground forces adds 3 new Divisions, 2 of them heavy divisions and 1 light division.The German Army will turn away from multinational peackeeping and peacemaking out of area operations back to a stronger home/Nato defence. Means the Bundeswehr will rapidly grow in heavy tank and armored figthing equipment and man power, they also want to create new barracks.
The German ministry of defence will present thier plans officel to the NATO partners at the NATO defence minister meeting in June this year.
The first main focus is rebuilding the Artillery strength. At the end of the cold war Germany did run 40 Artillery Battalions... they reduced this number to 3 at the moment. In the future this number will be raised to 14 Artillery Battalions. All together Germany plans to build up 27 new Battalions.
Something I like... keep our troops at home and stop try to play a role in every conflict around the world, concentrate on home defence with a modern powerfull Army.
