Germany has temporarily closed it’s embassy in capital Kabul and suspended it’s operations due to serious security threats.
A spokesman for the foreign ministry of Germany confirmed the report and said the embassy has suspended it’s operations in capital Kabul during the past recent days.
The spokesman did not comment regarding the media reports which suggest that the embassy was closed due to serious security warnings.
This comes as a local German newspaper “Welt” earlier reported that the German secret service (BND)ecently warned the foreign ministry of a risk of a terrorist attack by Islamists in Kabul.
The newspaper further added that the indications of a looming attack were “concrete” and “serious”.
Germany is the third largest troops contributor to NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan. It has deployed around 4,000 troops in Afghanistan which are mainly based in norhtern Afghanistan.
Majority of the German troops are due to leave the country by the end of 2014, however, German defense officials earlier had announced that Germany will keep 600 to 800 troops in Afghanistan after NATO mission ends in 2014.
