Ariane VI is a complete new rocket model and currently under development. Its very sucessfull Ariane V also gets a upgrade called Ariane V ME which development is almost complete.
The Ariane project is mostly developed and payed from France and Germany. France wants the Ariane VI as a mostly Low Earth Orbit rocket which is capable to deliver stuff to the ISS as well as satellites. That version would run with solid fuel boosters. Germany is against this version and says it won´t finance this. Germany plans the Ariane VI as a Heavy Launcher, capable to lift up to 12 tons into a geostationary orbit and beyond and also capable to transport not just goods to the ISS but entire modules and even crew. This version would use liquid fuel, which is alot more safe to handle.
France argues, that the Ariane V ME already can do this and this one was already developed on german demand. The Ariane VI with the german design would be a step towards Mars and the Moon. But would also be build mostly in germany.
