LAHORE: German Ambassador to Pakistan Martin Kobler on Friday said his country’s giant companies were interested to invest in diverse fields especially Information Technology and auto manufacturing.

“German giants like Volkswagen and Siemens have shown their desire to invest in Pakistan,” he said during a meeting with Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari, a press release said.

The German envoy, who called on Bukhari in Islamabad, discussed matters pertaining to bilateral interests with a special focus on importing Pakistani manpower by creating more work opportunities for them in Germany.

The two also discussed the impact of Brexit and the dynamics of the labour market in post-Brexit Germany. The ambassador said that there was an emerging need for mechatronics experts in German industries which would eventually prompt the requirement for mechatronics experts to be brought in from across the globe.

“German legislatures will pass laws for immigrant workers in March next year for the purpose,” the press release added.

Bukhari assured Kobler of Pakistan’s interest in providing the required technical workforce to Germany on a priority basis and the two decided to evolve a mechanism for the systematic export of Pakistani manpower to Germany.

. . . . . . . .
Now it's time to remove all the hurdles, including corrupt bureaucracy and long bureaucratic processes...

The world wants to invest in Pakistan but the bigger question is does Pakistan want the FDI? We need to remove corruption and red tape-ism and we need to use IT to streamline the process for investors and reduce the contact between the investors and corrupt bureaucrats. I don't if this govt has what it takes to do that..

Pakistan has huge IT potential. Need to unearth this skill set and unleash the potential.

Of course, all of this is impossible without quality education. We need to invest more in quality education. I have extremely high hopes from the new government. Education is an area I expect a lot of work from PTI. Pakistan must work with especially China in the field of improving education. The public education system has been systematically destroyed in Pakistan, but this was once a very healthy and bright part of our system. This is where from the grass root level brilliant minds are produced. I regularly meet older generation Pakistanis who work at various universities (professors and teachers) over here in The Netherlands. I am amazed at their linguistic skills and knowledge. These are the products of the public education system which shows what kind of potential Pakistan possessed back in the day. Need to unleash this potential once again. The youngsters need access to high speed internet. Without proper internet facilities a nation is doomed anyway. This must be top priority of the new government. Shut scam private education institutes. These fake schools have eroded quality education. It is the same phenomena as NGOs. Every Tom, Dick and Harry is opening up schools like NGOs. This is unacceptable. The government is responsible for regulating quality education. This is the future of Pakistan. The new government must prioritize education from top to bottom.

We are hearing about the entry of new players in the automotive industry since Nawaz's time but so far no progress has been made on that front. I hope this expression of interest turns into something tangible real soon.
