KARACHI: The website of Geo News has been restored, after it came under Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack at 2035 on Friday.
DDoS attack means that millions of hits are artificially made to strike a website in such a manner that even a very powerful computer sever is left unable to cope with the artificially boosted hits traffic.
It should be mentioned that Geo website at first became inactive sometime back when President Musharraf imposed the emergency in the country. Afterwards, new and more powerful severs were employed to host Geo.tv website. However, it is the second time after the imposition of emergency that Geo News most powerful new servers broke down.
The DSoS attack is still in progress and an artificial traffic of Giga Bytes is being sent to the server. According to Geo News Webmaster Asif Lateef, as soon as the attack is brought under control, the website can be easily downloaded as per its normal speed.
It should be noted that after November 3 emergency, all electronic media have been closed in Pakistan; the Internet is the only source of information for the people of Pakistan to keep informed
