LONDON, (SANA): A three-member delegation of Kashmir Centre London consisting of Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, Raja Muhammad Ayub and Mr. Asif Ahmed attended a conference organised by Islamic Human Rights Commission to commemorate Genocide Memorial Day.

The conference was held at Brunei Gallery, SOAS London. This conference is being held every year to raise the concern on the genocides and genocidal acts. These are the crimes, which strike against very heart of the humanity.

Kashmir echoed at the conference when the Executive Director of Kashmir Centre London Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl said that we are discussing genocide and genocidal acts by cutting across the geographical borders, religious diversions and ethnic diversities.

Shawl reminded the audience that on 6th November 1947 after the Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir more than 500,000 people were impacted by an onslaught of armed hordes and occupation forces, it resulted in death of over 200,000 people and the rest were displaced.

Ever since everyday we witness genocidal acts and atrocities in different parts occupied state. All this is happening under the microscope of United Nations and the international community, he added.

Shawl invoked the panellists and the audience to voice their concern towards this conflict, which needs a resolution in accordance with aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The IHRC Chairman Massoud Shadjareh also referred to the day to day suffering of the occupied people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Eminent academicians, human rights activists, and civil society luminaries attended the conference. They included Professor Saied Reza Ameli honorary Research Fellow at the Department of American and Canadian Studies at the university of Birmingham, Bruce Kent Vice President of Campaign for nuclear Disarmament, Professor Ramon Grosfoguel Associate Professor at University of California-Berkeley, Rabbi Ahron Cohen Spokesperson for Neturei Karta-UK, Neigeme Glassgow-Maeda Director of Caribbean Film Corner, Professor Ilan Pappe –Professor of history at the University of Exeter, Ms. Sanasino a poet residing in London, Hasan Nuhanovic Bosnian Survivor of Srebrenica, Siddiqa Juma an Islamic inspired artist and animator residing in London, Kika Markham an actress and Political activist.

The themes discussed by various panelists included “Genocides and the Right of Life: Physical and Cultural Genocides”, “Decolonising the Holocaust”, “Memorcide: Crime, Closure and reconstitution in Palestine”, “Under the UN Flag – the International Community and the Srebrenica Genocide” “Remembrance of genocidal acts” At the end one minute silence was observed for the victims of Genocides Killed in different conflicts.
