Why did ISPR DG Major-General Asif Ghafoor mention Major-General Faiz Hameed in his wide-ranging Tuesday press briefing on how the army will be helping the ECP for the elections?

The DG said that General Hameed and his team had been pivotal in defeating terrorism in the country — but what did that mean?

General Hameed is the head of the Counter Intelligence wing in the ISI. You will remember him from the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) sit-in in Islamabad. It is his signature at the bottom of the agreement between the government and the protestors.

Following amendments to Election Act 2017, the TLP staged sit-in at the Faizabad Interchange in Islamabad, paralyzing the capital for almost three weeks last year. Attempts to negotiate failed and the government launched a police operation. It flopped.

And then, on November 27, TLP chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi announced he was ending the protest. He said that an “army-brokered” agreement had taken place between the protestors and the government. He said he appreciated that the army chief had taken personal interest in solving the issue by sending General Hameed.

When the agreement signed between protestors and the army surfaced on the media, people noticed that it bore the signature of General Hameed. The agreement praised the efforts of the army.

The Islamabad High Court questioned the jurisdiction of the army in making such an agreement. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui said that not a single clause of the agreement was according to the law. Justice Siddiqui objected to the army being part of the agreement. He expressed fears that after these remarks, he might be killed or go missing.

It's not a joking matter. A 3 time PM of Pakistan and a convicted Godfather is breaking up country by maligning top secret agency of the nation. He should be stopped or Pakistan might lose another province on anti establishment card
