Gen Bajwa contacts UAE, Saudi Arabia over Pakistan-IMF deal

Just declare martial law.

This hybrid regime with generals calling the shots from behind is confusing to say the least.

. . .
You can't blame him for this, if he can help alleviate our financial and liquidity woes, he has to.

The whole world sees who the real power center in Pakistan remains, same page or no same page. All is well with the same routine. No news here.

The generals loot more than politicians, If they declare martial law then the people
will blame Army for corruption. With a fake democracy they hide behind corrupt
politicians.

For over 70 years people were thinking that politicians are corrupt but now they have
realised that the Generals are bigger crooks.

It'll stay this way as long as politicians happily use this power dynamic against one another. PMLN was happy to use the establishment's bs against PPP, PTI was happy to use it against PMLN and PPP, and now PDM are happy to see it unfold against PTI.

Aptly named soundtrack for this endless cycle:
Recognisable section after 1min.

I wouldn't mind the establishment " a limited role" to control the politicians when they slip away into the enemies' camps. But silently fixed their direction. Bajwa committed a cardinal sin in the open by calling all out war against PTI, where he brought into power the most corrupt and discarded leadership. Or repeating the same procedure they did in 1977 by toppling Bhutto or killing of Fatima Jinnah and calling her RAW ka agent by Ayub Khan. It is fact military stabbed the democratic process so many times, that no one trust them, and even PDM doesn't respect them, who came in power with the support of the establishment. Yes, but Nawaz is still their favorite baby.
Lately, Zardari has also changed his strategy, now he is hiring all top retired military brass for his projects in Sindh. Staying closer to fauj eyes and master think tank.

It’s interesting to note.

The establishment supremacy has taken a huge hit. On the perception front, the establishment’s reputation is down to the level of Punjab police. Sadly, even the army’s reputation thanks to the Generals have taken a huge hit.

The politicians have understood the game and are now tilting the balance in their favor and showing the anecdotal finger to the Generals. Sighting the public taking them to the cleaners even Zardari is showing them eyes.

The establishment have had a helping hand in toppling the PTI, but it has come at a great cost. Paradoxically, maybe that’s a positive in the long run.

If establishment did one bad thing and then try to rectify, are not the same things. Both actions deserves their rightful awards. Anyway, they can do all good without doing any bad. Hell with that who runs the show.

Else, what! If a man ruins a girl sanctity, then claim that I will find a match for her so to be called a saviour. Is that justified ?

And that is the silver lining in all this mess - it’s not just good for Pakistan but even for the Army it will be a such an excellent refocus for them into really a top and dedicated fighting force from grunt to leadership with no external influence or interests able to shake them

As usual, saved by our military….

I don’t know how to word my answer but that’s a pathetic statement. Didn’t need any sort of saving for 3.5 years, but needed saving after 3 months, the only army chief I know in recent memory who’s on a begging tour — way to **** things up. Proof of Pakistan producing failures from birth to college that feeds into the military, but I didn’t expect anything better from FA level pass either. Hope this same army doesn’t maneuver on the battlefield as it did post-PTI by stepping on one landmine after another, Lol.

lol I don’t even know what to say..

If I do, Army boys gonna start having their typical mirgi ka dora

Lol

UAE to invest $1bn in Pakistani companies: state news agency

The United Arab Emirates intends to invest $1 billion in Pakistani companies across various sectors, state news agency (WAM) reported citing an official source in Abu Dhabi.
The UAE is keen to continue cooperation with Pakistan “in various fields, which include gas, energy infrastructure, renewable energy, health care,” the agency added.
The move will likely help revive investor sentiment in the country, which has been beset by dwindling foreign exchange reserves as well as a depreciating rupee. However, as an IMF bailout programme becomes clearer, sentiment has improved and the stock market on Friday rallied by some 670 points.
The IMF is likely to start the process for releasing the seventh and eighth tranches of a loan programme for Pakistan later this week, IMF and diplomatic sources told Dawn.

The IMF’s summer recess ends on Aug 12. “So, technically the IMF Executive Board’s meeting could take place before Aug 20, if recommendations are sent to the board by Aug 6,” one of the sources said.
Pakistan and the IMF signed the $6bn bailout accord — Extended Fund Facility (EFF) — in 2019. But the release of a $1.17 billion (seventh and eighth) tranche has been on hold since earlier this year, when the IMF expressed concern about Pakistan’s compliance with the deal.
The last executive board consultation was held on February 2 this year. On July 13, the IMF reached a staff-level agreement on the combined seventh and eighth reviews for the EFF, which has to be approved by the board before it is disbursed.
The sources said Pakistan tried to get the board’s approval before the summer recess (Aug 1 to 12) and sent several officials to Washington to persuade the Fund to do so. Earlier this week, Army Chief Qamar Bajwa telephoned US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman to seek Washington’s support for the package. “But the Pakistanis were informed that it’s not possible to hold a board meeting before the recess as a number of members are already on leave,” one of the sources said.
Another source said the IMF was “keen to help Pakistan out” and that “there has been no delay on their behalf”, but it was “not possible to expedite the process”.
The sources said the IMF had asked Pakistan to get assurances from Saudi Arabia and the UAE that they would give an expected $4bn loan to the country after the IMF releases its tranche.
“The Pakistanis received, and conveyed, the assurance from the two friendly countries,” a senior diplomatic source said. “So, we see no problem in the board’s approval.”
But other sources said Pakistan had been warned “not to allow the political situation to go out of hand”. The government had further been told that “street violence and protests by the opposition or a government crackdown on PTI leaders can have a negative impact on the deal”.
The US media, while commenting on Gen. Bajwa’s calls to US diplomatic and military officials three days ago, pointed out that “Pakistan’s military, which has directly ruled the country for more than half of its 75-year history, has closely worked with the US and is an official ally in the war on terror against Al Qaeda”.
“And the calls have helped, but even the Americans cannot persuade the IMF to circumvent its procedure,” a diplomatic source said.
“Pakistan desperately needs the IMF loan. In July, the fund said it would raise the value of the bailout from $6 billion to $7 billion, if approved by its executive board, usually considered a formality,” one of the reports said.
Another report noted that “the revival of IMF’s bailout package will help Pakistan and encourage other international financial institutions to engage with the country”.
The report pointed out that since Imran Khan’s ouster, “Pakistan’s currency has plummeted to an all-time low amid uncertainty about IMF assistance”.
The steady decline in the nation’s currency “has spread panic among its business community” and “rising food prices has made the Sharif government highly unpopular”.

Just like Saudis were going to make refineries here.

Selling your SOE's for dirt cheap share prices without any sort of due diligence or open bidding is not exactly what you would call an 'investement'.

If he there for a job opportunity like Raheel Sharif than he is mistaken, Bajwa is not capable of becoming a security guard at super market or grocery store.
