GE, Wayne Burt tie up to make aircraft parts, rocket engines

Wayne Burt Group has entered into several MOUs agreements with GE Aviation through its group company Kerns Aero Products Pvt. Ltd. The company manufactures high precision, complex, special process aircraft engine components for aircrafts and rocket engines.

The special process factory is located in the industrial hub of Sriperambudur, near Chennai in collaboration with General Electric - Aviation. The investment in this venture is $25 million and expected to have revenues of $50 million in the next three years.

T G S Mahesh, President and CEO, Wayne Burt Group, said that being the defence offset partner to GE, Kerns Aero Products has tremendous growth potential in defence industries world over, especially with regard to the Indian defence industry.

Kerns deploys highly specialised and complex manufacturing processes like Electron Beam Welding, TIG welding, Vacuum Brazing, Vacuum Heat Treating, Resistance Welding, Air-Flow Testing, Laser & Electro Discharge Machining, Digital X-Ray, FPI, Tool & Die Design and assembly for production and quality testing that are unique to their product category.

He added that the Design & Engineering team at Kerns Aero Products works closely with their technology partner, Kerns Manufacturing Corporation, USA. Migrating the latest technologies and manufacturing processes to India, Kerns has ignited the ‘Make in India’ concept in its true sense.

MOU’s signed with GE for defence contracts includes Indian Coast Guard Aircraft Program (Sikorsky Aircraft), Airbus’s Indian Air Force A330 MRTT Tanker programme, AH -64 aircraft under the Attack Helicopter Program, India VVIP Helicopter Program, Boeing Apache Helicopters Program, Light Combat Aircraft - Tejas Engine Program and S70-B Helicopters Program (Sikorsky Aircraft).
