ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday banned candidates with dual nationality from participating in the elections, DawnNews reported.

An Election Commission meeting, headed by the Chief Election Commissioner, Justice Khwaja Hamid, decided that legislation would be passed to ban dual nationals from participating in elections.

The election commissioner also took notice of the delay in the fake degrees’ case and directed to re-evaluate the case and to expedite the process.

He also discarded Maulvi Iqbal Haider’s references filed against Awami National Party senators Zahid Khan and Haji Adeel.

Moreover, the election commission issued election symbols to two parties for polls.

Legislation to ban dual nationality holder from election participation is good and sounds pure nationalism where this kind of legislation should pass long time before. Moreover there should be legislation where more than 75% business and assets of election participants should be in Pakistan. Those participants also should be disqualified whose political career or personal interests reported doubtful and against common national interests & moreover full checking of transactions for further disqualification decision before election or after election even being on important post.
