People in Pak don't enjoy kabaddi unless players slap each other. Its known as chandha ali kabaddi. It does test strength and technique though. It's popular in pak punjab and now also in kpk to smaller extent . These tournaments in punjab rural areas will always have 1 or 2 pathan players from KPK so it's most be because its fun to watch. Like around 19:30 player is pathan from Lakki Marwat. Remember there is no government support and these players get money from spectators after winning match like in good old days.
I wouldn't say it is more strength oriented because the players don't grapple as much and the emphasis is on "gutt pharna" as opposed to "kenchi laani". But it is more aggressive because of the physical contact. BTW it is only in a real professional match that we don't slap in Indian kabaddi, practice matches we hit and slap just like real kabaddi.
I have already seen almost all the videos of sohail gondal, javed jattu,dr bijli, pappu, chisti, janjua, babar gujjar and many others too..i have also played traditional indian kabaddi ..its just that chantedaar kabaddi is played for only crowd..not much rules ,just slap him and a good grappling moveand the crowd gets happy and the player is declared a winner.

If you are from Punjab, Haryana or Maharasthra, you'd know that kushti has always been popular here.Is Kushti a popular sport in Pakistan or only Cricket fans are there.
In India wrestling has picked up a lot in last 10-15 years, and wrestlers are doing well in International competitions also (Olympics etc.)
Well it is quite popular in my state of Haryana. before independence, Punjab (undivided) used to be the hotbed of akharasMy grandfather was a wrestler. And yes it's bigger sport than in India, albeit not Greco-Roman style. Plus kabaadi is bigger in rural areas here as compared to India.
In my side of Punjab it does. People even fight at flying kainchi, especially if leads to broken leg. Thappadds/lafedes (slaps) are part and parcel of game, and referees allows it to a certain extent. Mostly raiders use it as intimidation tactic, and referees only stop if you over do it.
One thing I miss most in kabaddi is, gut ton fad ke rakhna (holding raider using wrist), does not happen that much these days.

ooo welcome welcome after a long time. where you had beenDo not forget Jaats of Haryana when you think of wrestling!
Its not "3000 pushups", its 3000 dands ...also known as hindu push-ups..its easier than push-ups...too bad wrestling now a days have time limit and there is no need to do 5000 squats(bodyweight) and 3000 dands...as bodyweight exercises build endurance, rather than strength.
why it is Hindu push ups and not desi push ups?Westerners call dands as hindu push-ups.
