The Khaybar was never adopted by any branch of Iran's armed forces. It was sent to Syria for evaluation but the Syrians were not impressed by it and decided to adopt the AK-74 instead

Must not have been a good design, but an important stepping stone. Have there been any improved variants?

It was an ambitious design for Iran considering they never had any experience with a Bullpup rifle! I have not seen any new versions aside from the 3 existing models that you can find in Sobhan's post above. Iran also came up with a G-3 Bullpup design around the same time as the Khaybar but that too was not adopted either.

ASH-3D Sea King / Sea Killer (Fajr-e-Darya)

Type: Light, short-range, air-launched, anti-ship missile
Range: Approximately 20km
Guidance: Electro-optical
Speed: Mach 0.8

The Italian-designed, Sea Killer anti-ship missile, was supplied to Iran with the Vosper Mk5 corvettes, but was withdrawn from service in the early 1990s (replaced by the C-802). However, the type resurfaced in the late 1990s as the indigenous Fajr-e Darya programme, reborn as a helicopter-launched missile. The programme is thought to have benefited from Chinese assistance, sometimes described by the Chinese designation FL-6. Although the missile has been paraded publicly in recent years, and seen mounted on Islamic Republic of Iran Navy Aviation ASH-3D Sea King helicopters, it seems to have been eclipsed by the Chinese C-701 and TL-10 missile types (see Kosar).

The missile closely resembles the Italian, Marte Mk2 missile, because they are both derived from the Sea Killer. The European missile uses an active radar seeker and is generally more capable.

Mil Mi-17 ‘Hip’ / Noor

Quantity in service: ?
Missile: C-802 (Noor)

At least one test launch has been publicised, but its operational status is unclear. The Noor missile (indigenously-produced C-802) fitted to the Mi-17 is a modification of the land-based variant, normally fired from a box launcher. This means that the launch booster and the pop-out folding fins, are retained. An advantage of retaining the launch booster, is slightly longer range and the ability to fire the missile while at a very slow speed or hover; but the down side is a rather heavy missile that must exit the helicopter very calmly, to ensure that the fins do not hit the fuselage or pylons when they pop-out split seconds after launch.

Stationed in the south of Iran at Bushehr Heliport and Bandar Abbas Navy Field are the ASH-3Ds of the IRINA (Islamic Republic of Iran Navy Aviation). Before the 1979 Iranian revolution, it was simply called the IIN (Imperial Iranian Navy).
