Combat Fleets Of The World: Future of the Indian Navy

.
INS Vishal is the second of the Vikrant class aircraft carrier(formerly Project 71 "Air Defence Ship").

Like the Vikrant, the INS Vishal will be built at Cochin Shipyard Limited; The keel for the INS Vishal is expected to be laid down in mid-2011 or early 2012. It is projected to be a 65,000 tonnes aircraft carrier, with a CATOBAR layout rather than the ski-jump layout currently planned for the INS Vikramaditya and the INS Vikrant. Reports have suggested that the Indian Navy has shown interest in implementing the use of the EMALS system developed for the United States Navy, rather than outfitting the INS Vishal with a conventional steam-powered catapult.

Like the two aircraft carriers scheduled to enter service before it, the INS Vishal is expected to carry MiG-29Ks, naval versions of the HAL Tejas and the Ka-31 Airborne Early Warning Helicopter. The Indian Navy has also sent RFIs to Dassault Aviation for the Dassault Rafale, EADS for the Eurofighter Typhoon, and Boeing for F/A-18F Super Hornet to meet the needs of a future carrier-based combat aircraft. Both Saab and Lockheed-Martin have expressed interest in the competition, offering the JAS 39 Sea Gripen) and F-35 Lightning II 'B' and 'C' versions respectively.

The INS Vishal is expected to be commissioned in 2017/2018.

I hope Rafale M wins. After MMRCA, integration and service of Rafale M would be easier. What do you guys say?

Indian Navy to procure five midget submarines

To strengthen its capabilities of carrying out special underwater operations in high seas and enemy harbours, the Indian Navy is planning to procure five midget submarines for the Marine Commandos (MARCOS).

Submarines weighing less than 150 tonnes are classified as midgets and are used by the navies to carry out underwater covert operations and surveillance missions.

The Navy has already initiated the process of procuring these vessels and recently issued a Request for Proposal to Indian shipyards including Hindustan Shipyards Limited, ABG and Pipavav shipyards, defence ministry sources told PTI here.

Initially, the Navy was planning to get only five of these vessels but the inductions can be doubled later on.

The induction of these midgets is part of the Navy's efforts to strengthen its operational capabilities after the 26/11 terror strikes in Mumbai last year, sources said.

With a capacity of carrying four to six personnel on board, the submarines would have a diving depth of around 400m, they added.

The midgets, sources said, will have the capability of carrying out both manned and unmanned operations and will be equipped with a host of weapons including torpedoes.

Due to their faster speed and smaller size, midgets are able to escape the enemy Sound Navigation and Ranging (SONAR) probes making them useful in carrying out covert operations, they said, and help troops to penetrate into hostile territory without getting noticed by enemies.

These submarines, sources said, would be capable of being launched independently or being attached with larger mother submarines.

Midgets can be taken close to far-off enemy areas by attaching them with conventional submarines and can be launched once they are close to the area of operation.

The midgets can also be deployed along the coastal areas to keep a check on the suspicious activities close to the shores.

May be useful to prevent 26/11 kind of incidences from occurring

Combat Fleets Of The World: Future of the Indian Navy

we have 8 Tu142 and 5 Il38

Indian Navy developing new stealth ships

New Delhi: The Indian naval designers have been working on cutting edge ships of the future. CNN-IBN caught up with naval experts at the President's Fleet Review to find out what the Indian navy fleet will look like, 10 years from now.
The Indian Navy will have a three hulled ship or the Trimaran virtually invisible to the enemy radar because of its stealth design. Its deck gun and missiles have been concealed in every respect.

KN Vaidyanathan, DG, Naval Design, said, "Stealth means reduced radar cross section, reduced underwater noise as well as reduced infrared signature apart from other electric signatures."

"We are also going to use multi-function radars, already our destroyers and new gen frigates are going to have multi-function radars and they are using the vertical launch systems," he added.

The Trimaran concept design follows in the wake of the Navy's first stealth design, the Project 17 Shivalik class ships, two of which are now at sea with a third on the way.

But the Navy is banking on the Shivalik's successor, the Project 17 Alfa stealth vessel, which will have missile silos flush with the deck and torpedo launchers blending along the sides of the vessel. There will also be a concealed hangar for a Kamov helicopter. Naval designers admit that US concepts have influenced some of their ideas.

"If you look at the LCS design of the US Navy, they are moving on the seaframe concept and mission modularity. The idea is to have a basic seaframe for the platform and have a mission module so that you can have role changes for the ship and there can be a quick turnaround of roles," Vaidyanathan said.

With an eye on the future, the Navy is moving towards modular construction and may even participate in Britain's Global Combat Ship project where individual navies can use a common low cost platform to fit their own weapons and systems.

We need True Air Defence Destroyers with the size of Battle Cruisers with 9000+ Tonnes Displacement, Aeigs Capable Point System with range of 400 Km with 360° Coverage ASEA Radar, Hypersonic Brahmos, Nirbhay Cruise Missile. A programme lasting 20-25 Years with 17-20 inducted like the Alreigh Burke Class.

That would make Indian Navy as much fearful as the USN!

This sounds good. But i hate to say this that apart from ibn nobody reported any such plans. As far as i know the future warship projects are P17a, P15b and P28a corvettes. P17a will be advanced version of P17 and P15b advanced version of P15a so no trimaran is possible here unless this information is false because trimaran will involve complete change in the superstructure of these warships. There is a small possibility that this might be P28a but again here also there are reports that P28a will no different from Kamorta class (P28) meaning the only difference in these future warships will be the use of composites and modular shipbuilding although this will also drastically reduce the stealth of these warships as well as the development time.

As far as the first article is concerned...there are lot of mistakes...
