Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir says funds have been released on the directives of Prime Minister for timely execution of Quetta-Chaman and Quetta-Taftan highways projects.

Addressing a function at Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said these projects would help generate trade and economic activities in these areas.

The Minister said warehouses and cold storages would be constructed in Balochistan with the active participation of private sector.

why not link Quetta with Gawadar?
Connecting Quetta with Chaman and Taftan means connecting Quetta with Afghanistan and Iran. That is a very important project in my opinion so it should not be talked with Gwadar to Quetta which is a domestic project.

Right now don't need to have a separate connection for Gwadar to Quetta as it may not be financially viable at this time. If you see the current network of Motorways in Pakistan, Gwadar is connected with M-8 that leads to Ratodaro but if you leave at Khuzdar junction that's only 300 kilometres to Quetta where N-25 will take you to Quetta from Khuzdar. That's a very straight forward route and part of the existing plan. We don't have to build another 1000KM track just to connect Gwadar with Quetta.

Our top priorities should be to connect Gwadar with rest of the financial hubs of the country. For which we have already connected Karachi with Gwadar thanks to Makran Coastal Highway and once M-8, M7, M6, M5 and M4 are completed, It will connect Gwadar with Multan, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar and parts of the Sindh. So Gwadar is ultimately planned to be linked with rest of the country in near future. Not a bad policy I reckon.
