ISLAMABAD:
Academic exchange programmes play an important role in strengthening people-to-people ties between the US and Pakistan, said US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas Williams while addressing the pre-departure orientation of Pakistani Fulbright Student Programme recipients at a local hotel on Friday.

Congratulating the 147 Pakistani recipients, he said “Each one of you will become an ambassador of the rich culture and society that is Pakistan. You will be able to share your own unique experience and insights to make a difference in lives of people you meet and institutions of which you are a part, both in the US and upon your return to Pakistan,” he said.

The 2015 Fulbright cohort hails from 33 universities across Pakistan, with women representing 46 per cent of the group. For their studies in the US, the Fulbright participants will be attending 70 different universities in a wide variety of academic disciplines, including engineering, energy, management and social sciences.

“Since 2005, the Fulbright was received by 1,537 Pakistanis to study, teach, conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns,” he shared.

Is there any way to judge what impact, if any, these 1537 Pakistanis have had in their home country, or even elsewhere?

How many of these scholarships are awarded for physics?

How many of these will stay.. and how many of these will do a Faisal Shehzad?

Most of them will stay and their second generation, suffering from an identity crisis will do a Faisal Shehzad, and then we'll be back to square one.......

Ive got first gen's doing Sipah Sahaba here. Screw the Christians, Jews and all other gay people.. the popular topic for these nutjobs is Shia Bashing or Bareilvi Bashing.. on the flipside, the Shia here are busy Wahabi(justified) and Sunni bashing.

Excellent news, indeed. Good luck to these aspiring bright minds !

So you're not even immune from these imbeciles in the US? Hmm.......... an Island it is........ and by the way, I've recently added Deobandis to the 'justified' list as well (after REPEATED first hand experience - as the membrane between Wahabis and Deobandis has all but disappeared)......

Ive added anyone who talks to me unsolicited about Islam on that list without prejudice. I hate being prejudiced :cheesy:

Bhawawawawawawa....... that is a conclusion I came to as well, just two months back........... :D

These 'bright minds' do not get these scholarships based on merit but on personal recommendations by their respective teachers/schools. Worst kind of toe lickers are sent abroad and able students who lack in the art of shoe shining are left behind. I have seen these dramas when teaching in Pakistan.

I'm sure that not all of these recipients are 'toe lickers', but have received it based on merit. Let's just hope that they will be model representatives of Pakistan when abroad.
