If we ignored SL and the LTTE the whole island would be under LTTE control.

We did send in the IPKF with more than 100000 soldiers and dozens of T-72 tanks.
SL govt may not be very close but the LTTE would be very hostile.
RAW clearly could not control LTTE.

It is on India's goodwill that SL has a govt. today. If no IPKF would have gone in them SL would be wiped off the map.
Then more forces would be needed to clear out LTTE training camps. They would surely attack Indian targets.

India must make LTTE pay big time still. You dont kill a PM and get away. Find all the financers and hunt them down.

SL Army in the 1970s was indeed unprepared for the LTTE threat, but overtime they have become more efficient an better.

Unless SL gets a economic boom and closer ties to West and India it will remain open to attacks

The tigers have been smashed, and thank god for that. They were completely out of control and a threat to peace for the whole region. India has to do everything it can to help Sri Lanka rebuild and heal.
