Did I miss something?
French has one CV and 3 LHD but only 2 DDG?
Looks very odd to me.
Ah, I see.France lists its two Horizon class ships as air defence frigates. They serve alongside the two Cassard air defence frigates. The Cassard was decommissioned this year while its sister ship, the Jean Bart will remain in service til 2022.

The two frigates will be replaced by two FREMM with enhenced air defence capabilities, the Alsace and Lorraine.

Ah, I see.
I just realized that "destroyer" and "frigate" are used interchangeably in Europe.
French has 3 LHD Mistral which gives them plenty of flexibility in foreign policy or overseas deployment. The 2 British carrier are hardly operational and combat ready.@Vergennes
Even though the French air-force is as powerful as the UK RAF, your Navy is far inferior to the UK's RN.
Let us look at the major differences:
1. UK has 2 65,000 carriers that can carry 50 aircraft against 1 French carrier that can carry around 36 aircraft, although the French carrier has catapults and is nuclear powered.
2. UK has 6 SSNs that are much larger and more advanced than the French SSNs - well at least the 3 Astutes are.
3. UK has 6 Type-45 destroyers and only the 2 Horizon class are comparable and the 4 Fremm boats are way behind in anti-air warfare capabilities.
I know that a lot of French naval activity is centred around the mediterranean sea and so is this the reason why it does not have a powerful blue-water fleet like the Royal Navy?
