Freed separatist leader Masarat Alam holds anti-India rally in Srinagar, raises Pakistani flag

this is the peril of our kashmir policy, I'd say either let em have their free will or take a cue out of israel's book and rein in on em without second thoughts or regrets

Israel is at war with the Palestine.....are you at war with Kashmir, which is your you control (even through brute force)??? It sure seems like it from the posts above. And if you do think you are at war with one of your own / captured areas, then why not let them free? I don't understand the hatred and rhetoric.

The name Kashmir itself is of Hindu origin. The Muslims in Kashmir are immigrants and that is the fact. There facial features are proof of that..

Just so you know, I had a very good friend Radhika in school. Her father was a Pandit in Kashmir so they were obviously all Kashmiris. I've known her for years (she's a doctors now), along with many of her Kashmiri friends, both Hindu and Muslims. All of them converted over to Islam centuries ago. Their "Facial Features" aka, complexion and all, are different due to cold mountainous climate.

In fact, the entire Kashmir region going up towards KPK in Pakistan, Afghanistan and to other areas of Himalayas, you'll file fair complexion and similar features. Primarily because of the cold weather and mountainous climate.

You know this guy?

His father was also a Kashmiri pundit who converted to Islam

I don't like a Pakistani Flag being flown in Srinagar - but is there a law against it? People should be allowed to protest peacefully - however they want. I can see why this is a sensitive issue. In an ideal situation - India should also allow Tibetans to fly their flags whenever they feel like. The guy who did it is clearly looking to cause trouble. But the Indian state is not so weak that it should be scared of a private citizen flying a Pakistani flag on Indian soil.

LOL my great grandfather was a pundit somewhere near Srinagar and converted to Islam its the same story for nearly 90% of Kashmiri muslims they are natives who converted to Islam
Kashmiri Pundits look different from Kashmiri Muslims. They look like lot of North-Indians. KM on otherhand are much fairer and look central Asian. That might be another reason besides religion, that they relate with Pakistanis.

Many pundits did convert to Islam. But the converted ones don't look like the original Muslims. Omar Abdullah's( his grandfather was a pundit) dad looks like a typical North Indian. Omar looks different since mom was white.

Come to 21 century and face the reality that Kashmiris hate you and they are in ample majority. Muslim Majority in Kashmir is a reality, no matter how much it burn your butts.

Nothing fear...Nobody conducts plebiscite with in its own country. Only fools such as UK do that. Did China conducted plebiscite in Tibet? Did Russia conducted plebiscite in Cremia. Why did even Pakistan conducted plebiscite in Baluchistan or FATA?
Kashmir is not india. Its an occupied territory, even uno recognize it as a disputed territory. Uno has its resolution's regarding Kashmir.
It had always been reconized as a dispute between india and pak since day one.

From Simla agreement to lahore declaration , disputed position of Kashmir had always been recognized.

Masrat Alam shifted out of Srinagar
Srinagar, April 17, 2015, (IANS)

Hardline separatist leader Masrat Alam was shifted again on Friday from Srinagar to Badgam district in Jammu and Kashmir where a police complaint has been lodged against him over hoisting Pakistani flags on April 15.

Alam was placed under house arrest on Thursday night at his Zaindar Mohalla residence in old Srinagar city to prevent him from participating in a separatist rally in Kashmir's Tral town on Friday.

Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani was also placed under house arrest in his upscale Hyderpora residence on Thursday.

Alam was shifted on Friday from his residence to Shaheedgunj police station from where he has been shifted to Humhama police station in Badgam.

Police lodged a first information report (FIR) against Alam on April 15 when he led a separatist rally for Geelani, who reached Srinagar that day after spending over three months in Delhi for treatment.

Youths displayed Pakistani flags and shouted pro-Azadi and pro-Pakistan slogans during the rally.

On March 7, the Jammu and Kashmir government released Alam from preventive detention after more than four years.

He was arrested during the 2010 unrest in the Kashmir Valley. He was accused of inciting youth during the unrest in which at least 112 people were killed in clashes between mobs and security forces.

So how much area of Kashmir did India lose today?

If this is what you call "kicking a$$", I wish you all the luck to do so every day for the next few millennia. What a degradation of Pakistani ambitions - from believing they can take Kashmir from India, to being satisfied at a useless flag waving. Kicking a$$, LOL.

Exactly! I will take their flag waving any day as long as status quo is continued and violence curbed!

In any case, it didn't take their flag waving to understand where their loyalties lie!

Jammu and Kashmir government capable to deal with any situation: Jitendra Singh - The Economic Times
By PTI | 18 Apr, 2015, 03.21PM IST

KATRA: In the backdrop of anti-India slogans raised by separatists leaders at a rally in Srinagar, Union Minister Jitendra Singh today said the state government is capable to deal with any situation and urged people not to get panicky over the issue.

"Government is capable in dealing with any kind of situation and therefore I want to reassure the people of Jammu and Kashmir not to get panicky over the issue," Singh told reporters here.

The state government has taken cognisance of everything so they will be able to handle it and control the situation to bring back normalcy. They have also learnt from the sequence of last incidents that has happened in last two to three days, he said.

Over security situation, he said "I am sure that the authorities concerned would be able to control the situation sooner or later and therefore the tourists season would remain unaffected".

"I assure that both the state and the Centre are working in tandem and we should give them opportunity to handle the situation," he said.

On the issue of revival of separatism in the Kashmir Valley, he said "I am sure that both the partners (PDP and BJP) will also take care of keeping in mind the sensitivities of each other and as I have already reiterated that this is an alliance based on governance and development agenda".

He said the alliance came into existence in spite of the different ideological views and that too was responsibility of the BJP because we were the second largest group and took upon the onus of responsibility of providing democratic government to the state and its people, Singh said.

Yaseen Malik, Swami Agnivesh detained - The Times of India
Apr 18, 2015, 04.06 PM IST

SRINAGAR: JKLF chairman Yaseen Malik and social activist Swami Agnivesh were on Saturday detained when they tried to lead a march towards Narbal in central Kashmir's Budgam district where a youth was killed in firing by security forces during a protest.

Police took the two into preventive custody at Maisuma as they attempted to take out a march towards Narbal, where Suhail Ahmad Sofi was killed and two others were injured when security forces opened fire at demonstrators who were protesting against the killing of two youths in an army operation in Tral area of south Kashmir earlier this week.

Agnivesh had joined Malik this morning in the 30-hour hunger strike against the proposal to create separate settlements for Kashmiri migrant Pandits.

Speaking to reporters, Malik said the people of Kashmir would not allow the "division of the people" in the name of creation of separate colonies for Kashmiri migrant Pandits.

"We will not allow these colonies at any cost. We have to live together and die together," he said.

Malik said the Pandit community should talk to the people of Kashmir rather than the government for their return.

"If Pandit brothers have any concerns, they should directly talk to us... the people of Kashmir or to the civil society here. Let them talk to us rather than the government. We want to recreate that atmosphere of peace, love and brotherhood between the communities which was here before the militancy," he said.

He condemned the killing of the youth in the firing. "We declared unilateral ceasefire and after that people of Kashmir had shown a transition from violent movement to non-violent democratic movemebt....If this kind of attitude continues ....are you not pushing the boys on a militant path," he said

Agnivesh said Kashmir is known for its secular character and Kashmiriyat and the government should leave the issue of the return of the migrant Pandits to the people.

"We ask the government not to do anything. We will do it at our own level. Let all religious leaders come together and talk to the Pandit community for their return," he said.

He said the lines which divide the people in the name of religion should be erased.

"Love should be spread by connecting hearts of the people," he said.
