My combo of gadgets didnt help me yesterday and I thought I ran a quite comprehensive softwares baggage. I wasted several hours yesterday.

MSE, AVG, Anvi Smart Defender,Glary Utilities 4 ,Advanced SystemCare 7, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, CC cleaner ---- are all installed on my pc for years and I scanned with them all.

I also use anti malware/spyware/level1 security on 'peer block' on top of 'https everywhere' add on

If I add ad-aware11, I would probably be using more than 70% of the well known softwares

OR should we just get a paid norton subscription ?

What does the new generation use?
Your advice, ideas are welcome

[and no, I dont surf /download hazardous files .. that I know of]

Damn man You have a complete set of System Security Tools installed. Are they installed and running on same machine at same time. And why your system didnt crash by now. I remember 1000 Years ago when I installed Symantec and some other AV software my system running on Windows XP crashed, So i had to reinstall OS.

I am using Avast AV for last 4 Years and didnt install any other Anti-malware product and I had to just install Windows 7 two times in last three years.

Tell us about ur system Specs......

dv6 i7 bought it within a month of its launch -- 1-2 years back -- it has a dedicated radeon graphics card

most of the softwares dont run constantly in te background, so dont cause overload

If you are using Windows - use Microsoft Security Essentials. Keep it regularly updated and you won't suffer.

I've had only a single anti-virus installed on my system since I bought it 3 years ago (windows security essentials). It's very basic. And I haven't a single virus issue.

The key is to use your system smartly. Don't download from untrusted sources and don't plugin everyone's flash drives into your system

All those fancy pieces of softwares are the overkill for a desktop machine.

A reputed antivirus and an antimalware which are updated regularly are enough to protect the PC.

I use Kaspersky AV and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free Edition which does pretty good work.

Moreover, just updating AV and antimalwares will not protect your computer completely.

first and foremost thing to do is, update your windows with latest security patches and updates (If it is not done yet).

There would be instances wherein both AV and antimalwares fail to erase all the malicious codes wherein following tools will come to your rescue !

ComboFix Download

HijackThis Download

If you think that, your system is still infected, please post hijackthis log over here, I will take a look.

mse=Microsoft Security Essentials

Ive accumulated all these softwares over the years as in some cases the new versions / definitions come quite late

My windows is uptodate -- Ive the automatic update option

Most of the softwares are not more than 25mb each

Yeah...I also use Microsoft Security Essentials...microsoft forefront client security is great as well, specially it's feature 'quarantine items' is best for 'trogen Horse',type malicious software.

software size is irrelevant ! You can install as many softwares as you wish based on the disk capacity.

What I meant was, running multiple antivirus softwares and multiple antimalware softwares on a single system is not recommended. If you do so, they not only consume system resources but also, there would be conflicts between such applications which will render all such softwares useless at times.

I will suggest that you Install Avast(Even Basic one comes with alot of functions) and built-in Windows Defender but keep em update. And for your laptop sake remove other anti-ThisAndThatCrapware softwares.

I'll suggest you AVAST, u can try the FREE Home Edition and if satisfied can upgrade it to Pro version. u can use AVAST Free Home Edition along with Malware Bytes to stay safe. I've been using AVAST for years now and am very satisfied.
Edit: Always have ur WIN FW enabled in case ur not using another FW, to make sure that all port apart from those required all disabled.

Manti, Just go to *********.org, download a full version copy of malware bytes (or the keygen, crack) to unlock full version of it. Your life will become hassle free.

Perform Flash scan option of this program will unlock and will finish your 70 percent headache

@Manticore You don't need all that.

I've had an MSE, Mbam combo for many years now, no issues. Granted that I use it carefully.
