Iran is to mount a calligraphy exhibition inspired by the 11th-century Persian poet Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh at the University of Strasbourg in France.

Renowned Iranian professor of Oriental Studies at the University of Strasbourg Dr. Hossein Beik-baghban will attend the opening ceremony of the event along with a number of Iranian and French scholars on April 3, 2012.

Happiness in Iranian Art will display selected works of veteran Iranian calligraphers Shamseddin Moradi and Mohammad Yarahmadi.

Organized by Iran’s Ferdowsi Foundation in collaboration with the oriental studies department of Strasbourg University, the exhibition works inspired by Ferdowsi’s epic masterpiece Shahnameh.

Shahnameh (The Book of Kings) is a classic among epic Persian poetry and recounts Iran's mythical and historical past. It was written in Persian at a time when Arabic was the main scientific and literary language of Iran.

The romance of Zal and Rudaba, the Seven Stages (or Labors) of Rostam, Rostam and Sohrab, Siavash and Soudabeh, Rostam and Akvan Div, the romance of Bizhan and Manizheh and Rostam and Esfandyar are among the most popular Shahnameh stories.

The Happiness in Iranian Art exhibition will run until April 5, 2012.
