India and France are going from strength to strength in their relationship, two great countries are increasingly working together for the betterment of our two peoples, I don't know if a thread on this already exist but I thought it would be a good idea to start this for all France-India discussions.

France has always supported and backed India, with actions and words, a lot of French people are very interested in India and it's history.

Here are some videos to get the ball rolling.

Campus France India - Study in France

Viewpoints on France-India business relations - HEC Paris

India in Paris - Rue du Faubourg Saint Denis

I have no doubts that France-India Relations will reach new heights, but the major problems for Indian students to study in France is the language; however having said that some Institutes have done better. INSEAD is good example. My friend, who completed her MBA at INSEAD last year, says that around 20% of the class are Indians. Off late HEC is doing well too.

I think more Indian should study the French language and vice versa, French people should also study Indian languages as well. Language is a barrier at the moment, but the only way to get over that is to have a lot of student exchanges between our countries.

All most all the top French Universities offer education in English, but the biggest problem is getting a Job after one completes his/her education. Unless you have fluency in French, it is hard to get a job in France, and except INSEAD, none of the French Institutes have global brand image, although I heard HEC has better local brand image as compared to INSEAD.

French is among the 2nd languages a Student must choose in his High school. Its an Included subject in almost all the state Boards and of course the Central Board. French and Deutsch are gaining popularity in India.

Is there more that France and India can do, people to people exchanges maybe? I know a lot of Indians prefer to study in English speaking countries and that obviously the language barrier there, but every time I read French newspapers etc they are always talking about India, there is a lot of love for India in France and the fighter jet deal seems to have pushed it further along.

i think the following points could become the basis of future Indo-French cooperation:
1. Civilian Nuke tech specially compact nuke reactors is a field where France experience could be very useful for India...:D

2. Civil Aviation Aircraft manufacturing as France is a substainial holder in Airbus n India could become a new base for Airbus as we r booming market for civil aviation.

3. High Speed Rail transport is yet another area where France could be very helpful for upgradation of our rail network.

4. Ship building India has tremendous scope for ship building French private companies n open shipyards with collobration with Indian companies in India.

6. Tourism there is a lot potential for this in both countries...

Half my family is French and I go to visit them regularly. When walking through Paris, you see lots of ads for coming exhibitions, but India is rarely mentionned, in fact I have never encountered even once a grand exhibition of India art/ culture. What I see often are Arabic, Japanese and Chinese exhibitions in the Louvre and other first class institutions. Just google Louvre and la Chine, le Japon, le monde Arab or l'Inde and see the result.

When I open a French newspaper it's the same.

^ Agree with the above post, but I think that is the fault of the Indian government, if they can Getty off their arses they can easily tap into the public imagination in France. After all both France and India are great cultures worth a lot of history and art.

I fear that the GOI is failing to do anything about this, they need to run more expos etc about India in France, they are either to lazy or don't really care.

You are right about people to people relations which need to improve, GOI has too much on its plate at the moment, look east policy, Afghanistan, CA, Africa, Australia etc. Indo French is an established relationship with deep trust and friendship on both sides, we can always count on the French Govt and they on us.
