Four-star generals may get tenure extensions following PM's directives

.
NS gave the carrot to musharaf by making him coas and musharaf in return gave him the stick
In the end it was NS who came back to power , became PM and musharaf had to leave this country giving fake medical certificates.

Some sites has posted that ,Nawaz wants to give Gen Raheel extension and trying to convince him. It seems after two years completion , if Gen Raheel jump in politics, he will be monster. And just in case Nawaz know well. Because if Gen complete his tenure , then that would be untainted and remarkable profession legacy he will leave behind and people remember him

.
No but I know things and Nawaz is feeling the heat
It was understood months before current heated situation that government will extend COAS tenure without even asking Chief himself, so Gen Sharif will continue his service till end of 2017, which means that these are not kind of some desperate measures....PM isn't going anywhere till 2018 or may be more...!!

Politics is not General's area of expertise..that would be the last thing he would like to do even if he get retirement this year.

2018 isn't far away, lots of difference between our personal wishes and ground realities...I can bet he is gonna survive beyond 2018, that's why Imran Khan is dragging his feet to the limits...secondly you are referring to tweet of ISPR in which COAS said that he don't believe in extension and will honourably take retirement instead, but the point is that no body here is asking COAS to take extension...the overall tenure of COAS will be extended to 4 years which means that he will continue his service till 2017....do you think that COAS will express his disagreement on the decision of increasing tenure of COAS taken by Chief executive of the country...? He will continue his services till the fulfilment of his actions plan till end of next year..simple..!!

He won't survive till 2018. Secondly COAS will leave in 2016. This overall tenure will start from next chief not Raheel Shareef. Yes COAS will express disagreement and he has already done it.

There are two things to consider.

Should seniority be the sole criteria?

Musharraf was junior to Ali Quli Khan, but so was Zia to 3 others. Yahya Khan got rapid promotions and was Brigadier at the tender age of 34, when most others are lucky to become Lt Col’s. Eisenhower was only battalion commander in 1939 when WW2 started but was appointed Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force for North Africa in November 1942. If seniority was the only criterion, Napoleon would have never made a General at the age of 26.

If we are to avoid mediocre such as Musa Khan or the cowards like Niazi heading critical military posts; ‘Merit’ should always take precedence when it comes to promotion to the top posts in the Armed Services as well as in the Corporate sector

Theoretically all serving Generals from Artillery, Armour or Infantry; if promoted on merit; are capable of COAS job once they reach 3 star rank. Therefore it is the question if selecting best among the best. We wouldn’t know how well or bad the person will perform until he is promoted.

However, merit is a ‘Subjective’ criterion and if someone is promoted out of turn, it is not his fault but onus is on the one who promotes him. Hence ZA Bhutto who promoted Zia & Nawaz Sharif who promoted Musharraf took wrong decisions and suffered the consequences.

Should the tenure of the 4 Star General be extended to 4 years?

Understand that under the present system, a major General retires at 57 & Lt General at 58 or after 4 years in the rank whichever is earlier. For example if a major General is promoted to 3 star rank at the age of 56, he will retire after 2 years only, whereas if he were to become a Lt General at 52, he would retire at 56 unless he is promoted to 4 star rank.

I am personally against extending the tenure of serving generals, because it would deprive some other deserving General chance of becoming COAS. Additionally, each new Chief brings new ideas and extension can translate into more of the same as happened with Gen Kiyani which delayed Operation Zarbe Azb unnecessarily.

The service tenure of COAS, CAS & CNS is to be increased from 3 years to 4 years.
This discussion is already underway.
If this is approved all Chief's service tenure will be extended by 1 year.

it means both Sharifs are on same page :pakistan:

@Muhammad Omar @Tameem @xyxmt @Zaneesh852

Nawaz, the limp horse will rest in his UK appartment InShAllah. A person who at the time of insurgency and two-front threats is unable to appoint a forign minister is a burden on this Nation. The sooner you lay it off, the comfortable it would be.

Besides, Pakistan is not cursed to be served by people with phobias and insecurities. If you have those, stay in your home and recover without making nation suffer.
