Blast at Cochin Shipyard kills 5, injures 11
KOCHI: Four people have reportedly been killed and at least 11 injured in a blast at Cochin Shipyard.

Reports suggest two more may be stranded.

The blast happened on an ONGC-owned Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU) called Sagar Bhushan, which was undergoing maintenance work at the shipyard.

The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals. Police and fire tenders have rushed to the spot and rescue operations are underway.

More details are awaited on what caused the blast.

Cochin Shipyard is one of India's premier ship-building and repair facilities. It is the location where India's first indigenously built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, is being built.

The shipyard had in 2006 won the contract for the repair and maintenance of three of ONGC's offshore rigs. These include two MODUs - Sagar Bhushan and Sagar Vijay - and a Jack Up Rig (JUR) Sagar Kiran.

Five die in fire on ship under repair at Cochin Shipyard

KOCHI: A fire broke out on a ship under repair at the Cochin Shipyard Limited premises, killing five people, a CSL spokesperson said.
Eleven persons trapped inside the ship were evacuated and rushed to various hospitals in the city, the spokesperson said.

Those working at the time of the blast were mostly daily labourers and contract workers.

The blast took place around 11 am in the water tank of the berthed ONGC tanker Sagar Bhushan when some 20 workers were working on the ship.

Efforts are on to evacuate those trapped in the ship.

The Sagar Bhushan has been docked at the Cochin Shipyard for a month for repairs and maintenance.

High ranking police and top shipyard officials have reached the accident site.

Speaking to the media, Kochi City Police Commissioner M.P. Dinesh said: "The death toll from the blast includes some who apparently choked on the smoke after the explosion. A probe has been ordered, Dinesh said.

Rest in peace.
May be India should look after it's working class people rather than it's internet-warrior class people.
