Four vessels from the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet, on operational deployment to the South China Sea and the Western Pacific, made a port call here today.Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, Rear Admiral P. Ajit Kumar, who is officially in the country with the vessels for the second time, said he was looking forward to enhance ties with the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN).<
He said a Passage Exercise (Passex) had been planned with the RMN, adding that it would immensely contribute to furthering peace and maritime security in the region.
“The spectrum of this exercise encompasses both conventional war fighting drills and cooperative military action against unconventional threats in the maritime domain,” he told a press conference on board the ship here today.
Kumar said the five-day visit to Malaysia, starting today, encompassed several programmes with the RMN.
On Monday, there will be a dinner reception hosted on board the ship for top officers from the Indian Embassy and Malaysian officials.
In recent past, the relationship of the Indian Navy with the RMN has grown significantly, especially in key areas like training, anti-piracy, information sharing and operational interaction and cooperation.
The Eastern Fleet’s four vessels carrying about 800 crewmen and deployed on goodwill visit between mid-May and mid-June, comprise the indigenously-built Guided Missile Stealth Frigate Satpura, Guided Missile Destroyer Ranvijay, Guided Missile Corvette Kirch and the versatile Fleet Tanker Shankti.
The vessels will head to Vietnam before making a final port call in the Philippines.
The Indian Navy is wholly committed to combating piracy and maritime terrorism in the Indian Ocean, with numerous countries lauding its aggressive approach, especially in the Gulf of Aden, in safeguarding vital trade and energy flow destined for India and South East Asian economies.

These vessels are to visit Vietnam and Philippines also.Interesting.

India's look east policy is growing at a very fast rate.

Not really, it's going at a steady pace as it always has been. Indian Admirals know that acting too quickly may set off the wrong kind of alarms in the region.

You are right bro,but look east policy is not only about military to military relations but it has also got economic dimensions.
look east policy was formulated in 1990's, but then it was only a paper policy and now even US encourages this policy. Free trade agreement talks btw India and Asian is an example of India's fast growing look east policy.

Of course, but one cannot understate the military implications. As this is primarily a military forum, I assumed people would be talking about the military side of things. The Look East policy has been devised to contain the growing influence of China and stop it's expansion. Of course, we don't know how effective this will be in the long term, but in the short term, it's a smart idea.

Well China notices it otherwise they wouldn't be complaining. Especially when we are shifting military forces to Asia. We had forces in Asia for many many years. So why is China taking notice? Perhaps we are standing in the way?

Are you talking as an American or as an Indian? I'll answer accordingly.
