Four Pakistanis plotted to bomb British army base using toy car.
IANS | May 1, 2012, 05.46PM IST

LONDON: Four Pakistani-Britons have been charged with taking inspiration from al-Qaida magazine Inspire, and plotting to use a toy car to attack a base of the Territorial Army in Britain's Luton town. The plot was, however, foiled.

Zahid Iqbal, 30, is accused of leading the terror network. He was joined by Mohammed Sharfaraz Ahmed, 24, Umar Arshad, 23, and Syed Farhan Hussain, 21.

The gang is accused of working to recruit others for jihad and raising funds, the Daily Mail reported.

The men were arrested at their homes in Luton last week.

The Westminster magistrates' court heard the men bought survival equipment, downloaded al-Qaida terror manuals and discussed methods and targets. Two of the men were caught discussing how to build explosive devices from instructions in Inspire magazine.

It was also claimed the gang planned to attack NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Ahmed is accused of acting as a recruiter and making an "explorative visit" to Pakistan where he may have undertaken terrorist activities, the daily said.

Hussain allegedly specialised in the distribution of funds and provisions, while Arshad allegedly provided practical guidance on activities abroad, what to wear to fit in and lead the outdoor training.

All four were accused of possessing editions of Inspire, and a terrorist book called "44 Ways to Support Jihad".

Ahmed and Arshad were also found with a copy of "21 Techniques of Silent Killing". Arshad was also accused of owning "The al-Qaida Manual" while Hussain was accused of possessing "The Book of Jihad" and a manual named "The Explosives Course Two".

The four men have been remanded in custody. The trial continues.

Wow seems British army is very unpopular at home. Seems like the War on Terror had earned them a bad rep and a target on their back.

These are not terrorists,

they are wannabes: nothing less and nothing more..........

Regarding bringing more embarrasment to nation, I think this is no more embarassment or new thing.

Those are PAK nationals not UK citizens( by birth ). You are right on next part of the sentence but it's shame on your nation. Not their

They are not Pak nationals they UK citizens and probably by birth since they were youngish kids. This organization they belong to, HuT, Pakistan has been crying foul about them for so long and urging the UK to close down their cells. They operate like a club in the UK! Imagine that, open terrorism clubs.

But still dont you think these guies bring a bad name for Pakistan ???
And what you say is truth then imagin how will UK behave to Pak origin people after that. Public opinion will also play major role in that. It will be hard time for people specially students from Pakistan going to UK for business or study. It will definately not help the other people in UK who already have citizenship

What is going on with the British Pakistani youth.

Why not have a honest discussion about it here. We even notice the British Pakistanis ( Not all ) here, seem to be quite radical in their ways. We have read articles about the Pakistani British youth having high numbers involved in drugs , crimes or being radicalized in UK. We have read several other Pakistani British posters here confirm this state of affairs to us here. AGAIN my question is what is going in UK- it is beyond anecdotal now, it seems like a community is in trouble.

lol....
they may well be messing about with an RC car....and somebody got paranoid.
obviously no explosives were found in their posession.....and the great british army got scared of "le toy car"
height of bravery

How do you know they are "Pak nationals" the article states "Pakistani-Britons" which suggest, they are British nationals but happen to be of Pakistani background. Most likely they were all raised in Britain.

It's funny how the media, especially Indian, tampers the words and headlines. Immaturity and sheer hatred.

Those men had UK nationality, and probably even their parents were raised in UK. They probably never even visited Pakistan and don't speak urdu.

They were Britishers. Britishers were planing to blow up British army, hence something must be seriously wrong.

You guys are very quick to disown people who embarrass you.. I never saw anyone disowning the oscar winner chinoy due to her canadian citizenship :)

much of these jihadist draw their inspirations from the failed concept of pan-Islamism.

These people were never Pakistani citizens they were raised in Britain all their life. As far Chinoy she is a dual-national.

Some idiotic malcontents will just bring a bad name to their community and co-religionists in these surcharged times. The alleged perpetrators will not care about the consequences of their actions, but it will cause harm to the image of their community in that country.

Is there any way, that the community itself can unmask and expose such elements. Or else there is the ever present danger of the community getting 'profiled' in the longer term.
