In order to improve the air-connectivity to the North-East region of India, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said the Indian Air Force (IAF) has so far activated four Advanced Landing Grounds (ALGs) at Ziro, Along, Mechuka and Walong in Arunachal Pradesh.

“The ALGs and aviation infrastructure in the North-East are being developed to improve air connectivity in the region,” Parrikar said.

These ALGs would act as transportation hubs during peace time and in case of contingencies like road closure, landslides, conflicts and war like situations the ALGs would act as launch bases for support of troops as well as replenishment of supplies.

The ALGs got an impetus after state government and the forces witnessed massive construction and development on the Chinese side along the 1,080-km border. The area remains a bone of contention between the Indian and Chinese forces where the line of actual control acts as the de facto border.

I believe air connectivity should be backed by solid road and rail connectivity as well. We should use flyovers type infrastructure to avoid dangerous places around the track. I am not much aware of highway passing through chickens neck but if possible expand it to minimum 8 lanes with four lanes of rail network with electric system. It should be further devided in five branch lines. One should head to Tawang, another one should head towards Eastern Arunanchal Pradesh. One should head towards Dimapur crossing into Myanmar and further connecting towards Kunming. Next line should go towards Meghalaya and Manipur and last line should head towards Tripura. All states line should be extended across the borders on Myanmar as well as Bangladesh for further connectivity. From the chicken neck one line should head towards Shikkim crossing past in China. We should increase land connectivity as much as possible if we have to sustain the infrastructure there needs to be economic benefits as well.
