Red Bull on Rajpath lap; Vodafone to woo Bangalore

‘Curtain raiser' for Indian Grand Prix under aegis of CII, Tourism Ministry on Oct 1

MUMBAI, SEPT. 15:
The race of brands to leverage their teams and association with F1 ahead of the Indian Grand Prix is hotting up. Two foreign brands that own F1 teams and have an interest in the Indian market - Red Bull and Vodafone - are shifting gears, well ahead of India's race day on October 30.

Red Bull Racing, after scorching the Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai two years ago, will fly racer Daniel Ricciardo to zip on Rajpath in the National Capital on October 1, for an event branded Red Bull Speed Street under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Speaking to Business Line, a CII official said, “We're speaking to some dignitaries, and we expect to have representatives from the government including ministers, Bollywood and sports flagging off the event at India Gate. The event should start at 2 p.m. and go on till 4.30 p.m. This is more like a curtain raiser for the Indian Grand Prix.”

Alongside the main event of the race car on Janpath, there will be biking and other performances. Also on show will be the culmination of a seven-city promotion by the brand, Red Bull Racing Can. The contest is for India's fastest (Red Bull) can, positioned on a remote controlled chasis of a mini-race car. Winners will contest at the global finals of the property at the Red Bull Racing factory in UK.

HAMILTON CALLING, FOR VODAFONE

Vodafone claims to have received 30,000 entries for its ‘Drive into the Big League contest' that allows SMEs a chance to put their logos on the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes (VMM) car during the Indian Grand Prix, within 16 days of launch. The brand has extended the last date for entries to September 25.

Even as engagement through the contest and reality shows for consumers and corporates picks up steam, the brand will fly in its race track star Lewis Hamilton to Bangalore, to woo Formula 1 fans on September 27 in a VMM race car, according to a company official. Bangalore is the chosen city for Hamilton to enthral based on audience profile and following of F1, said the official. Vodafone has previously brought down Hamilton to events in Mumbai and Chennai.
