Former Olympian Abrar Hussain gunned down in Quetta

QUETTA: Former boxing Olympian and director of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), Syed Abrar Hussain Shah was killed in Quetta on Thursday.

Hussain was leaving Ayub Stadium and was shot when he was getting into the car. He died as a result of a bullet wound to the head.

Express 24/7 correspondent, Arzoo Rehman reported that unidentified gunmen on motorcycles had opened fire on Hussain when he was leaving the stadium. He was hit by four bullets.

He was reported to be seriously injured and was moved to Civil Hospital, but had to be moved to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) due to lack of facilities.

Police are investigating the case.

Hussain had participated in the 1984 Olympics held in Los Angeles and had won a gold medal at the South Asian Games in 1985.

two poassible suspects my dear

1. BLA, they are targetting any famous Balochi who doesnt agree with their armed struggle against FC & baloch Goverment
2. Sipah Sahabah (TTP), which has killed famous Shia personalities in the past and he was a Shia Hazara

I have done my schooling with one of his Nephew’s back in the 80s. his Nephew Ali raza himself was a vey good boxer and no one used to bother him.
to many Pakistanis, all this terrorism is because of American invasion of Afghanistan and to them it will vanish the moment Americans apologise and leave Afghanistan. But the sad reality is that these terrorist who now operate under the umbrella of TTP have been honing their terror killing skills on mainly Shia & Ahmedis. Before 911 such news never made it to front news but just because the TTP have now opened up a whole sale of terrorism now every one of us is feeling the pain and blaming our favourite enemy.

I am really gutted on his death. Back in the days of mid 80s (maybe 87 or 88) I was actually on the Quetta airport receiving someone when he was returning back from the Olympics and his family and friends had a small convey ready for him (to take home) and as he came out of the customs his friends were kissing his hands.

May his soul rest in peace, he didn’t deserve to die like that. Like many others, He has fallen victim to this blind hatred at the hands of bigots who are killing people in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India. I wish and hope that the governments of the subcontinent have the courage and honesty to help each other to end this menace.
