I agree, fighting against privacy in the internet age is a losing battle.
As you have lived in US, I thought you would have known that privacy is quite a big deal in western countries.

The concept of privacy in Asia is not such a big deal. This is probably one reason why eCommerce and mobile payments just took off in China. Generally, as most of Asia is still poor, privacy is the least of their concerns. They have other more important things to worry about.

Just as Asians may have a harder time understanding "privacy", westerners also have a harder time understanding "filial piety". They may think that they do, but they don't.
It may bamboozle you why some people say certain things but if you bear in mind they hold different values, then it may not be so perplexing.
