Foreign hand behind attack on Sri Lankan team: Malik

* Interior adviser says no evidence found of LT involvement
* India using Afghanistan soil against Pakistan

By Muhammad Bilal

ISLAMABAD: Investigators have not found any concrete evidence so far of involvement of Lashkar-e-Tayyaba in the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore last week and see the evidence of a ‘foreign hand’ behind the incident, Interior Adviser Rehman Malik told the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior on Monday.

The committee discussed law and order across the country, the Lahore terrorist attack and efforts for the release of abducted United Nations official John Solecki.

Rehman Malik said the investigation into the Lahore attack was moving in a positive direction and the leads gathered so far provide sufficient evidence of involvement of a foreign hand in the terrorist attack.

India was using Afghanistan’s soil against Pakistan, he told the committee.

The committee expressed displeasure over the security arrangements made for the visiting team and termed the incident a security lapse. The committee members said the government should have provided extra security to the guests because there were intelligence reports of a possible attack.

The interior adviser admitted that the police were not fully capable of dealing with the terrorist strikes because the terrorists were equipped with modern weapons and technology.

Malik told the NA committee the government was making serious efforts for the release of Solecki, who had been abducted by “anti-Pakistan elements”.

Instead of discussing the security lapse at all times, it would be better if we along with addressing the security lapse, address the root cause of it as well. Since LET does not seem to be involved as per interior ministry, it seems to be a slap for all those who were hell bent to prove it as an inside job of some so called Jhiadi organization most notably LT.

"Grow a freakin pair... "

Yeah, there's value in speaking plainly.

Better yet, why didn't somebody from your Nat'l Assembly Standing Committee jackslap this bureaucrat back into his rightful place? Modern governance stands on three legs of a stool-executive, legislative, and judicial. Your legislature needs to learn how to GRILL those in testimony.

What are they? Bums in a soup kitchen lapping it up? Ask questions until satisfied. How else can you know? Go into closed session if necessary.

Vague answers from officials and unattributed/anonymous sources are the bane of our newsgathering. These political cats push rumor and innuendo around worse than we do if allowed!

Confused dude... Say India if its India! Say Afghani if its Afghani, say Taliban, Al Qaeda... Grow a freakin pair...

These PPP people seriously Lack a freakin pair...

They are afraid that their Friendly Image to India will be harmed if they accuse India, I don't know why they are hesitating to reveal the facts.

I think its the other way round...they cant name india categorically since they dont have the evidence. And just to shift blame & hide their failures ,they are making these veiled insinuations.

MR Khajur !

What makes you Think India Left Pakistan Bleeding without Leaving their Finger Prints, We have evidence and just few weeks before these attacks RAW agents were arrested in Lahore but our Govt kept Silent and they didn't said anything on media about these agents.

.
I'm quite confused, there are so many voices in Pakistan and so many rumors, various statements being made.
Our government can hardly be called credible right now in their words, and I don't blame the Indians if they look at the accusations aimed against them with awkward eyes and without too much belief because I don't see any unity nor do I see a sense of understanding among our politicians and top political brass.

Islamabad,Mar. 10 : In a bid to come clean on the Lahore terror attack, Pakistan has reiterated the role of a foreign hand in it, and accused India of using Afghanistan's soil against Pakistan.

Addressing the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior Affairs, Advisor on Interior matters, Rehman Malik, said investigations have not found any evidence of the Lashkar-e-Toiba's involvement.

Rehman asserted there is enough evidence to prove that a 'foreign hand' was behind the attack.

"India was using Afghanistan's soil against Pakistan," The Daily Times quoted Rehman, as saying.

Malik also admitted that security personnel guarding the Lankan convoy were not well equipped to counter the attack.

The committee, however, expressed discontent over the security cover provided to the Sri Lankan team.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has rebuked reports about an Indian involvement in the Lahore terror attack.

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said India is a long ally of his country, and that the Lankan Government does see any Indian linkage in the attack in which seven Sri Lankan cricket players were injured.

"From our point of view, there is no Indian involvement. India has helped us in our counter-terrorist efforts. I don't see a need for India to target the Sri Lankan cricket team," Bogollagama said.

Bogollagama said the LTTE's involvement can not be denied in the incident because of its links with international banned terrorist outfits.

"We are not ruling out links with the LTTE. The LTTE are known to have links with international terrorist groups. Our initial suspicions are on the LTTE," he said.
