For the First Time Ever, UN Secretary General Shares New Year Message in Urdu
Posted 1 hour ago by Haroon Hayder
For the first time in history, the UN Secretary General’s New Year’s message has also been broadcast in Urdu.
According to details, UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres’ New Year 2021 message was broadcast with Urdu translation so that the message of goodwill could reach a large audience of Urdu speakers.
Normally, messages from the UN on special occasions are published in its six official languages which are English, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, French, and Spanish.
However, New Year’s message was broadcast in these 6 languages as well as in Urdu.
In his message, Antonio Guterres said 2020 was a year of trials, tragedies, and tears as COVID-19 upended our lives and plunged the world into suffering and grief.
The world is witnessing an unprecedented increase in poverty, inequality, and hunger due to disappearing jobs and mounting debts while insecurity is rampant as children are struggling and domestic violence is rising.
But a new year lies ahead and with it, we see many rays of hope:
Antonio Guterres called on countries to make peace among themselves and with nature, tackle the climate crisis, stop the spread of COVID-19, and make 2021 a year of healing.
