For LCA Tejas, it’s now about months, not decades

a plane can be called indigenous when everything in it is from a company from your country.
Hell, i didnt knew, then even boeing cant call its planes indigenous when some of its parts are made in India, damn, eurofighter and gripen too are not indigenous???

Tejas SP-1 delivered. SP-2 due in 2016. Tejas Mk 2 first flight expected in 2019. Need 17 more SPs to make the first squadron.

Why would you love that? The JF-17 was developed and tested in Chengdu, China. The Tejas is being developed and tested in Bangalore, India. The JF-17 is not "yours" anymore than the MKI is ours. In fact, the MKI is more Indian than the JF-17 is Pakistani.


Pakistan is a partner of the JF-17 project just as Britain is a partner of the F-35 project.

OK. And is the F-35 a British plane, or American plane? Yes, that's what I thought.

On the other hand, Tejas is Indian. It was developed in India, it is being tested in India. Not in Chengdu.

F-35 is a multi national plane, developed entirely in the US at LM. Likewise, JF-17 is a multi national plane, developed entirely in China at CAC.

Pakistan is a client state of China, in China's sphere of influence. Whether JF-17 is developed in Pakistan or not has no relevance.

Su-30MKI is not a multi national plane, because there is no multi national contract for its development.

That was my point. It is ridiculous to point at India's troubles in designing and developing the Tejas, and comparing it with Pakistan manufacturing an aircraft that was entirely developed in China.

Who knows who developed Tejas. Maybe HAL paid LM to develop it. Development is not important. Who uses it is important.

Design phase of Tejas started only in 1988 & full scale funding started only in 1992.

The LCA design was finalised in 1990 as a small tailless delta wingedmachine with relaxed static stability(RSS) and control-configuration to enhance manoeuvrability performance.[8][26][27] A review committee was formed in May 1989 which reported that infrastructure, facilities and technologies in India had advanced sufficiently in most areas and that the project could be undertaken.[27]

Project definition commenced in October 1987 and was completed in September 1988. Dassault Aviation of France was hired as a consultant to review the PD and provide advice based on its extensive aviation expertise.[22]The phase cost 560 crore(US$88 million).[15] It was decided by the government that the full-scale engineering development (FSED) of the programme would proceed in two stages.[15][27]

Phase 1 commenced in April 1993,[15]and focused on "proof of concept" and comprised the design development and testing (DDT) of two technology demonstrator aircraft which were named as TD-1 and TD-2. This would be followed by the production of twoprototype vehicles (PV-1 and PV-2), TD-1 finally flew on 4 January 2001.[27]FSED Programme Phase-I was successfully completed in March 2004 and cost ₹2,188 crore.[15

Nope probably next month, may be in FOC configuration ..
And 4 tejas will be produced this year..
