As far as I know, it's a wrong assumption that Shaikh surname implies Arabic ancestry among Non Arbas, infact, it's quite the opposite.

Any Non Muslim guy who studied Islam, embraced and started preaching or became a Priest got the title Shaikh. And later on, that title became surname for future generations.
