Aren't they doing the same mistake they made after Afghan War ?
About 70000 US troops are in Afghanistan..
compared to that there are some 9000 british troops.
The Uzbek route is less than half the capacity to what the Trans Pakistan route has and costs three to four times more.
To "sell-off" associated troop equipment for 70000 troops would be taken as heresy under the current sequestration drive.
So all that has to come through this region.
Moreover, economic sanctions will only fuel further radicalization of Pakistan. That would be all well and good to leave if not for the nukes. Since chances are that if radicalization ends up compromising the Pakistani Establishment entirely .. then chances are the after effects of the semi-balkanized remains will not leave India/Afghanistan or even the middle east unscathed.
An extremist warlord may not be able to use a nuke.. but will have no qualms in taking them apart for a dirty bomb.
He may choose to use it against a minority or any other warlord who does not follow his train of thought. He may simply decide to lob it across the border... retaliation from there will add to the humanitarian costs on this side and further antagonize the population.
After all, you dont want some 90 million Males prepared to blow or kill your side up.. its better to deal with a million man army that follows orders rather than 90 million who have no guidelines.
